This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the American Inns of Court Pegasus Scholarship Program—a program that has become one of our most treasured international exchanges. For more than three decades, it has built bridges between our legal communities, strengthened our profession across borders, and fostered lifelong friendships grounded in shared values of ethics, professionalism, and excellence.

Since its founding, the Pegasus Scholarship has offered young American and British lawyers the opportunity to immerse themselves in each other’s legal systems, courts, and traditions. Many who have participated have gone on to become leaders—judges, barristers, advocates, scholars, and mentors who continue to enrich our profession.

The Pegasus Scholarship Trust was formed by the Right Honourable The Lord Goff in 1987 and has its office at Inner Temple. The Trust was established to allow young English barristers opportunities to travel abroad and young lawyers from other countries opportunities to travel to England to learn about each other’s legal systems. The Pegasus Trust scholarship program of the American Inns of Court allows young American Inn members to visit England for up to six weeks to observe and learn the English legal system, while their English counterparts spend a similar amount of time here in the United States learning our legal system.

The 2025 British Pegasus Scholars are:

Caleb Kirton is a barrister at Quadrant Chambers and member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

Alexandra Sutton (not in photo) is a barrister with the Government Legal Department and member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. Unfortunately, Alexandra was unable to join us this evening.

The 2024 American Inns of Court Pegasus Scholars are:

Stacey Burke is a senior Fulton County district attorney and member of the Judge Clarence Cooper American Inn of Court in Atlanta, Georgia.

Meg Glasmann is an associate at Jones Skelton & Hochuli and member of the David K. Watkiss-Sutherland II American Inn of Court in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Proud to see the lasting impact of the Pegasus Scholar network in action.

👏 2019 American Inns of Court Pegasus Scholar John J. Burke (Massachusetts)—now a barrister in London—recently hosted Judge Keven M. P. O’Grady and his wife, Gayle, during their visit to London.

Judge O’Grady serves on the Kansas Judicial Council, chairs the Kansas Supreme Court Child Support Advisory Committee, and is a member and former President of the Johnson County Family Law American Inn of Court in Olathe, Kansas.

Moments like these reflect the enduring professional and personal connections fostered through the Pegasus Scholar program. 🌍⚖️

Jonathan Schaffer-Goddard, Dual-Qualified Barrister and New York Attorney with 4 Pump Court, was a gracious host to 2025 British Pegasus Scholar Alexandra Sutton as she wrapped up her six-week program in the United States.

We are grateful for Jonathan’s hospitality and support in fostering these important exchanges between the American and British legal communities.

The American Inns of Court Pegasus Scholarship Program promotes international understanding and collaboration by providing young lawyers with the opportunity to experience legal systems in different jurisdictions and build lasting professional connections.

🎉 Celebrating Connections and Collaboration!

American Inns of Court British Pegasus Placement Committee Chair Jesse Binnall hosted the annual Binnall Law Group holiday event. It was wonderful catching up with so many committee members!

A special highlight was reconnecting with 2022 Pegasus Scholar Caroline Merck, now co-president of the Boston American Inns of Court, who played a key role in coordinating British Scholar Alexandra Sutton’s placement. The photos perfectly captures the joy of reconnecting and celebrating together.
