🚨 ATTENTION UBER & LYFT DRIVERS IN VIRGINIA 🚨

Our Pay Transparency and Pay Increase bills have now been formally submitted to the Virginia General Assembly and are moving toward committee hearings, where most legislation is decided.

• HB1003 — Standardizes driver pay and includes automatic annual increases tied to the cost of living
• HB1270 — Requires pay transparency and gives drivers real power to challenge unfair deactivations

Before these bills reach the House or Senate floor, they must clear key committee hearings in Richmond. Uber and Lyft are mobilizing to stop them there.

That’s why this campaign is focused on pressure + turnout: • A public petition aimed at the Governor, legislative leadership, and committee chairs
• A driver survey to organize testimony, calls, outreach, endorsements, and bodies in the room

If drivers don’t show up, these bills won’t pass.

✍️ Sign the petition:

Long time, no post! The was our original inspiration for forming a local drivers alliance, and its past time that we combine our efforts under one umbrella, their umbrella, so that drivers across Virginia can be unified in our struggles and in our development as a fighting force for workers' rights!

To that end, the leadership at DMV Drivers Alliance will be driving down from their Alexandria office on Tuesday, Dec 17th for a meet and greet + a new member orientation, to be held from 1:15pm to 3:15pm at the Glen Allen Branch Library on Staples Mill Rd!

Topics will include a brief history of the DMV Mit Drivers Alliance, an overview of our our upcoming legislative strategy and protest actions, our canvassing and recruitment program, our community partnerships, and our plans to build a drivers co-op!

Drivers, join us, and bring other drivers with you! Supportive non-driver community members, please share this post on your socials and especially with your friends and family who either drive for a living or who regularly use Uber & Lyft services! Mention this meeting to your rideshare drivers!

(Note: we will keep this social media page for now to help boost, but we do encourage all drivers to join the DMV Drivers Alliance whatsapp and/or telegram chats and to follow and the dmv drivers alliance

Statement from Richmond Drivers Alliance On Henrico Carjacking of an Uber Driver:

We’re horrified but unsurprised that another attack on a rideshare driver has happened, and we're determined to continue fighting for better protections for gig workers to prevent and mitigate harm.

Below are some key findings of a report called “DRIVING DANGER: How Uber and Lyft create a safety crisis for their drivers”, prepared by the Strategic Organizing Center from surveys taken in March 2023 of drivers across the US:

Rideshare work is unsafe, especially for people of color.

► Two-thirds of all rideshare driver survey respondents were threatened,
harassed, or assaulted in the last year.
► A majority of driver respondents were verbally abused, more than a quarter
were verbally threatened with physical harm and 14 percent were grabbed,
groped, or hit.
► A higher proportion of drivers of color reported experiencing some type of
threatening, harassing or violent behavior (72%) compared to white drivers
(63%), and almost one-in-five drivers of color reported being grabbed, groped,
or hit.

Deactivation motivates drivers to take unsafe rides.

► Fifty-nine percent of all drivers who accepted rides they felt were unsafe did so
because they were concerned about negative reviews leading to deactivation.
For drivers of color, this rate was seventy percent.
► Eighty-three percent of rideshare drivers reported concern about deactivation
by their app-based corporations, with over half being ‘very’ or ‘extremely’
concerned.
► Three-in-four rideshare drivers reported that the ability to deny or cancel rides
without consequence if they feel threatened or unsafe would make them feel
safer on the job.

App-based rideshare respondents were asked about measures that they believed would make their jobs safer or help them deal with the hazards of the job.

►Ability to deny/cancel rides without consequences drivers feel threatened: 76%
► Guaranteed compensation if injured or hurt while working: 69%
► Passenger verification: 66%
► Guaranteed compensation for family in cases of prolonged recovery or death: 64%

🚨 Fundraiser Alert!!! 🚨

A rideshare driver in RVA needs $138 to continue fighting Uber in small claims court against an unfair account deactivation which has resulted in lost wages!

Please donate what you can via cashapp to "$richardallbright"!

The fundraiser deadline is June 23rd!

If you'd like to donate but don't have cashapp, please DM us to arrange an alternative!

Rideshare driver advocacy groups around the country are building power to fight against unfair account deactivations - as we build power and get legislative protections for drivers, small claims court is one way we can push back.

Please share this post to help us meet our goal!
