Serving as an elected leader of NCRA allows Active members to give back to the profession while gaining valuable training, experience, and networking opportunities. One privilege of NCRA Active membership is participation in electing volunteer leaders. The Nominating Committee accepts and reviews/selects candidates each fall, with the election following in the winter.

NCRA’s Virtual Workshop for the Open-Book Section of the ODS Exam is a rigorous training presented in three-hour sessions over two days from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET. It is designed for candidates preparing to take the ODS exam in fall 2026. Donna Gress, RHIT, ODS-C, will focus exclusively on the open-book portion of the ODS exam, providing a thorough review of abstracting and coding methodologies, which accounts for one-third of the tested material. NCRA member price: $180; non-member price: $250. Registrants are required to complete pre-workshop case scenarios.

To maintain certified status, ODS-certified professionals are required to complete and submit twenty (20) CE credits of continuing education during their 2-year CE Cycle. At least four (4) of the required 20 CE credits must fall within "Category A" which covers the specific topic(s) of: directly assigned stage, EOD, and/or site-specific coding principles.

The page also includes educational programs approved for Continuing Education In-Person (CEIP). The ODS® credential maintenance requirement includes a minimum of eight (8) CE credits of in-person education over four (4) years. The eight CEIP credits are included in the standard 20 CE credits and can be earned across two, two-year CE cycles (i.e., within a four-year window).

The internationally recognized ODS credential demonstrates a requisite knowledge and professional competence needed within the cancer registry. NCRA’s Salary and Compensation Considerations for Cancer Registrars reports ODS-certified cancer registrars earn $25,000 more than non-credentialed cancer registrars.

Candidates receiving a passing score on the certification exam will be entitled to use “ODS” after their name and will receive a certificate from NCRA’s Council on Certification.

NCRA’s Virtual Fundamentals of Abstracting (FOA) Workshop includes four, three-hour sessions scheduled over four days from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET. The faculty will provide a theoretical basis for the tasks and activities associated with abstracting and a review of topics most important to abstractors, including Solid Tumor Rules, ICD-O, AJCC TNM Staging, Summary Stage, and Site-Specific Data Items, and Abstracting Data.

The virtual workshop is designed for cancer registry employees with six months and two years of experience. Attendees should have knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and cancer registry resources. The workshop is foundational and does not earn CEs. Submit your Cancer Registry Related Educational Program for NCRA Recognition. Your program could be eligible for CEIP, Live Interactive CEIP, or Category A credits! Learn more: https://www.ncra-usa.org/Education/NCRA-Program-Recognition

Organizations can submit their cancer registry related educational events for NCRA program recognition. Benefits of the recognition program include the ability to market the event as “NCRA-Approved” and to highlight the number of assigned CE credits eligible for credential maintenance. The Program Recognition Application includes the Continuing Education In-Person (CEIP) meeting designation. Basic and fundamental programs are not eligible for continuing education credits.

Live Interactive meetings can also be submitted for NCRA program recognition. A Live Interactive meeting is an event that includes at least five (5) professionals gathering in-person to learn from real-time, live remote presenter(s). While the presenter may be remote, the attendees must gather in-person. The remote educational program must also be pre-approved by NCRA.
