The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is the only U.S.-based nonprofit organization solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection. Through research, education, outreach and advocacy, we have helped countless people avoid a cancer diagnosis or detect their cancer early enough to be successfully treated. We are driven by a vision of a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable.

The Foundation is rising to meet the challenge of reducing cancer deaths by 40% by 2035. To achieve this, we are committed to investing $20 million for innovative technologies to detect cancer early and advance multi-cancer screening, $10 million to expand cancer screening and vaccination access to medically underserved communities, and $10 million to educate the public about screening and vaccination options. If you have tattoos or plan to get one, here’s what you need to know about keeping your ink protected. A new tattoo is fragile—keep it wrapped, out of the sun and out of the water. For all tattoos, SPF, shade and moisturizer are your best friends.

Limiting sun exposure on your tattooed and non-tattooed skin is so important for keeping your tattoos looking their best and your skin healthy. Learn more at the link in the comments.

Tanning beds are making a comeback, but they pose serious risks to your skin and your overall health. Young adults are the most frequent users of these beds, and people who first use a tanning bed before age 35 increase their risk for melanoma by 75%.

This past March, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) abandoned a long-running proposal to ban people under 18 from using tanning beds. Tanning beds may be trending, but it’s time to put your health first. Learn more about why you should avoid tanning beds to protect yourself at the link in the comments.

ICYMI: The Washington Post recently released an article sharing details of a study indicating marathons and ultramarathons may be linked to colon cancer. Whether you consider yourself a runner or not, here’s what you should know:

🏃‍♂️ Last fall, a study found increased polyps in ultrarunners, the first sign of colorectal cancer. The study is small and findings are still preliminary, but if you’re still asking yourself whether you should be concerned, the short answer is no.

🏃‍♂️ There is no evidence suggesting long-distance running causes colorectal cancer, but some ultrarunning habits, like repeated gut stress, chronic inflammation, and high caloric intake, overlap with factors that can affect colorectal cancer risk.

🏃‍♂️ Although any extreme activity can have impacts on your body, it’s important to remember the overall benefits of exercise and movements. Physical activity is linked to a lower risk of many cancers, and getting at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week can drastically improve your health.

Head to the link in our comments for more on this topic and ways to reduce your cancer risk.

The concept of the “base burn” is that your first burn of the summer will turn into a tan that protects your skin from future burns. We’re here to tell you that it won’t and why it’s so dangerous.

UV exposure always causes harm, and that exposure leaves deeper skin layers more vulnerable to ongoing damage every time you go back into the sun.

Before you head out into the sun this summer, learn more about what the real dangers are and how you can protect yourself at the link in the comments.

Something’s in the air—and it may be your candles and air fresheners. It’s important to understand what vapors are being released inside your home so you can protect yourself and your health.

️Air fresheners and some candles can emit trace levels of chemicals that are linked to an increased risk of cancer. But, when used responsibly, these products will have little to no impact on your health.

Always avoid burning or diffusing scents in poorly ventilated areas, don’t use these products for an extended period of time and be mindful using them around those with respiratory illnesses. Read more about candles and air fresheners and their cancer risk at the link in the comments.
