Inclusion Isn’t Enough: Why Belonging Drives Better Events

Event professionals are increasingly expected to demonstrate measurable value for meetings and conferences. While inclusion has become a baseline expectation, it does not guarantee that attendees feel they truly belong. And belonging is what drives deeper engagement, stronger connections, and lasting impact.

This session, presented by the LGBT Meeting Professionals Association, explores the distinction between inclusion and belonging and why that difference matters for event performance. When attendees feel a sense of belonging, they participate more fully, contribute more meaningfully, and are more likely to return, recommend, and invest in the experience.

Participants will examine how event design, environment, and stakeholder collaboration influence belonging across the full event ecosystem. Through practical examples and industry insights, this session demonstrates how planners, destinations, venues, and partners can move beyond inclusion to create experiences where people feel seen, valued, and connected.

Belonging is not just a feeling. It is a measurable driver of engagement, loyalty, and long-term success.
