Black Maternal Health Week brings a simple truth to light: every family deserves to feel safe, supported, and heard throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

That is why community-based support matters.
Through CHC’s Better Births Initiative, we’ve seen that, when families have knowledge, support, and someone in their corner, it can change outcomes and experiences. It can bring confidence, calm, and dignity to one of life’s most important moments.

This week, we’re shining a light on the birthworkers and community leaders helping build a future where mothers, babies, and families can thrive.

Swipe through for a few of the voices helping shape that future.

At CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, we believe every child, no matter their background, zip code, or life circumstances, deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life.

Across the country, too many children face barriers to healthcare, education, and basic needs that limit their potential. The Every Kid Deserves Fund supports programs that break down these barriers and create pathways to brighter, healthier futures.

By investing in long-term, community-driven solutions, we’re helping kids and families reach their full potential and build stronger, healthier communities for generations to come. 💙 Learn more at https://give.chcimpact.org/p/every-kid-deserves

🚨 Health gaps are connected, complex, and urgent. At CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, we know solving them requires proactive, collaborative leadership.

Introducing the Leadership Council for Healthier Communities (LCHC), a trusted space where leaders from corporate, nonprofit, and community sectors come together to remove barriers, drive solutions, and create lasting impact.

Who it is for: Visionary executives and innovators committed to advancing community health.

Why it matters: Most approaches to health are fragmented. LCHC unites leaders to address root causes, accelerate strategies, and expand access to better health.

A person’s ZIP code should not determine their lifespan. Together, we can close the divide.

🎥 Watch our video to see how LCHC is turning collaboration into action.

Last week, employees from LTS Lohmann in St. Paul, Minnesota, came together to spread warmth and kindness by creating cozy fleece blankets for individuals supported by CHC nonprofit partner Fraser. As Minnesota’s largest and most experienced provider of autism services, Fraser empowers individuals with more than 60 types of mental and physical disabilities. Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. 💙

Each September, our national and local partners recognize Su***de Prevention Month as a time to raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around this urgent mental health condition.

Suicidal thoughts, like all mental health conditions, can affect anyone, regardless of background.

This month, we honor the lives lost, stand beside those who are struggling, and come together in hope. By uniting as communities, organizations, and individuals, we can break stigma, strengthen prevention, and connect people with the support they need.

💛 If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org to reach the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

In a world defined by speed, disruption, and digital overload, a quiet crisis is undermining our workforce -- loneliness. Once seen as a personal issue, it is now a public health emergency and a serious business risk, driving attrition, burnout, and billions in lost productivity each year.

In this latest article, CHC President & CEO Jean Accius, in collaboration with Alexander Cole, CHC's Executive Strategy and Thought Leadership intern, calls on boards and executive teams to treat connection not as a perk but as a core business strategy. The data is clear. When employees feel seen, supported, and a true sense of belonging, organizations are more resilient, more innovative, and more competitive.

This message is urgent yet hopeful. By designing for belonging, embedding psychological safety, and measuring connection as rigorously as financial outcomes, leaders can transform culture and performance. Human connection is not just wellness, it is strategy.
