The people who care for us deserve to be cared for, too.

That belief drives the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation, created in memory of Dr. Lorna Breen, an emergency medicine leader in New York City who took her own life in 2020. Today the Foundation works to change the systems and culture that shape health workers’ well-being.

Thank you to CEO and co-founder Corey Feist for honoring NMF’s 80th anniversary, and for the reminder he leaves with every future physician we support: taking care of yourself is part of the work.

America’s health care workforce crisis is already here.

The average wait to see a doctor is 38 days. And as of this year, federal loans cap medical students at $50,000 a year for a degree that averages more than $286,000 at a public school.

Do that math and you know who gets pushed out of medicine. Then ask who’s left to take care of us.
