There's a moment this work creates.

The moment someone who wanted to serve communities facing the greatest health challenges finally had the support to do it. The moment a scholar became a physician. The moment a physician went back to the place that needed them most.

NMF has been creating that moment since 1946.

It started in Chicago. At Provident Hospital, with 10 fellowships and one physician who understood that the future of care depended on who was allowed to deliver it. That conviction built something that has now touched 45,000 scholars across every state in this country.

This October, we're going back.

Back to Chicago. Back to the mission. Back to the community of scholars, healers, advocates, and partners who believe that excellent care for all is not an aspiration. It's an obligation.

Whether NMF shaped your path or you've walked alongside this work, this homecoming is yours.

Medical breakthroughs don’t happen overnight.

The news of a 23-year-old becoming functionally cured of sickle cell disease through gene-editing therapy represents years of scientific research, innovation, and dedicated healthcare professionals working to improve patient care.

It also reminds us why investing in the next generation of healthcare leaders matters.

NMF Scholar Brittney Blair has dedicated her research to better understanding the experiences of people living with sickle cell disease and improving care for future patients.

At NMF, we’re proud to support scholars of medicine whose research and leadership are helping shape the future of healthcare.

Swipe through to learn why this breakthrough matters beyond the headline.

What if one of the biggest myths in healthcare is that the people caring for us don’t need care themselves?

From burnout and depression to workforce shortages and overwhelming workloads, today’s healthcare professionals are facing challenges that extend far beyond the exam room.

In her latest op-ed, NMF President & CEO Michellene Davis explores why supporting the healthcare workforce is one of the most urgent issues of our time. And as NMF Scholar Dr. Joel Bervell reminds us, these aren’t individual failures. They’re systemic challenges that require systemic solutions.

For 80 years, NMF has invested in future physicians and healthcare leaders through scholarship support, mentorship, leadership development, and community because a stronger healthcare workforce means a healthier future for all.

Swipe through for key takeaways.

Only 4% of healthcare providers in the U.S. participate in clinical research.

That means 96% of patients are waiting for a physician to step up and lead.

This National Clinical Trials Day, NMF is proud to train the doctors who answer that call.

The NMF Doctors in Clinical Trials Research Program (DCTR) equips physicians with the credentials, skills, and community to become Principal Investigators — bringing clinical research to the patients and places that need it most.

Our September 2026 cohort is open now. 🔗 Link in bio to learn more and apply.
