The Alexandria American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 invites 11th grade rising senior students in the Alexandria area to apply for a scholarship to Girls and Boys State this season. Virginia Boys and Girls State are week-long programs focused on governmental affairs held at a selected Virginia University. Participants must have completed their junior year of high school and have at least one semester of high school remaining to participate. Candidates for Virginia Boys/Girls State are selected through an interview process conducted by Post 24 (Boys State) and Unit 24 Auxiliary (Girls State). Candidates are evaluated based on their leadership abilities, interest in government, service to others, and academics. The American Legion and Auxiliary provide selected delegates from the local Alexandria, VA area with full scholarships for attendance; however, delegates must arrange their own travel to/from the program site (Radford or Longmont University). All Alexandria Area Homeschool and Private school students are welcome to apply.

Boys State is held at Radford University. More information is available at http://www.vaboysstate.org

Girls State will be held at Longwood University from June 19-25, 2022. More information is available at http://www.vagirlsstate.org

Please note that the Girls State application is due on January 26, 2022!

Delegates who attend Girls and Boys State who meet eligibility criteria may also be considered for special university scholarships for undergraduate studies.
