Training Days started in 2009. Since then, we’ve held 20 events — including four On-The-Road events — with two cancellations along the way thanks to COVID and a hurricane.

Over the years, 80 instructors have stood in front of a Training Days audience and shared their knowledge. Some presented once, others returned year after year, and Chief John Salka almost has had perfect attendance.

Every name on this graphic has played a part in the Training Days story. These instructors gave us their time, their knowledge, their experiences and, most importantly, their support. They helped build the reputation of this event and created a legacy that each new instructor and attendee continues to carry forward.

We’ve lost a few of the good ones along the way. Their names remain here because they remain part of our history. We honor them the best way we know how — by continuing to show up, continuing to learn and continuing what they helped build. Twenty events later, we’re still here — and this week, we’re looking out at a nearly full auditorium.
To the 80 instructors who helped get us here, and to every firefighter who has taken a seat in that auditorium since 2009: Thank you for being part of the Training Days legacy.

Notice. Ask. Connect. Stay Present. The goal of the first conversation is not to fix it immediately, but to figure out what they need and the plan.

Closing out Training Days 2026 with a conversation that matters.

Suzanne Herndon, Josh Burchick and Dena Ali take the stage for Optimizing Leadership Through Firefighter Human Performance — bringing three respected voices in firefighter mental health and wellness together for our final presentation.

A fitting way to close out three days of learning, conversation and 20 events worth of Training Days.
