May is National Military Appreciation Month, a time to honor the service and sacrifice of members of the American military, who for more than 250 years, have sworn to defend the United States.

One of the largest employers of veterans in the country, the U.S. Postal Service has approximately 65,000 employees who are former members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force or Coast Guard or are serving in the active-duty, Reserve or National Guard.

Memorial Day, a federal holiday that honors the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country, will be observed on Monday, May 25.

Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act in 2000. The act asks all Americans to pause at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day for a moment of silence to remember the fallen.
