We’re thrilled to share some amazing news! After many setbacks and with the help of one longtime partner and a new one, Hearts of Love is proud to announce our participation in Free Dental Care for families in Chirilagua.

Many have never seen a dentist, despite living with daily pain and insecurity. They have no insurance and few options, but they deserve access to care. Their health matters. Their dignity matters. And their contributions to the Alexandria community matter.

Huge thanks to Erik, Beth, Matilde, Maddie, and Mayor Gaskins for making this vision a reality.❤️

Hearts of Love is deeply honored to serve immigrant families facing fear, uncertainty, and immense need during these difficult times. With your support, we’ve provided food, clothing, dental care, and family counseling to those who’ve called this country home for decades. One of our most significant commitments this year is funding educational programs that equip families with written plans to protect their children in case their lives are disrupted.

We also had the privilege to use our resources to feed and celebrate with children graduating from their respective programs. These kids are incredible, and your support helps open doors for their future.

We are excited to share that Adriana Gómez Schellhaas has joined the Hearts of Love team. Adriana's skills and expertise will help Hearts of Love deepen the work of supporting families and individuals in the Chirilagua neighborhood. Please read her bio below and join us in welcoming Adriana to our team!

Adriana Gómez Schellhaas, a proud El Paso native, has made Alexandria, Virginia her home since 2010. With over a decade of nonprofit leadership experience, Adriana spent four and a half transformative years as the executive director of Casa Chirilagua, a faith-based organization working alongside a Central American immigrant neighborhood. Her work in leadership and community development is fueled by her faith and deep commitment to listening, empathy, bridge-building and collaboration. Recognized for her exceptional impact, she was honored as one of Alexandria and Northern Virginia's '40 Under 40' and named a 2022 Washingtonian of the Year.

Adriana currently serves as a nonprofit consultant for the Kathleen and Edward Arthur Hearts of Love Foundation and contributes her expertise to the Alexandria Community Safety Forum. Outside of her professional endeavors, Adriana is a proud mother of twins, a dedicated wife, and a trained musician, blending creativity and compassion in all aspects of her life.

Join Us for a Day of Free Health Screenings, Preventive Services, and Community Resources!

We are excited to host our third annual Free Community Health Fair, in partnership with Alexandria Celebrates Women, to support uninsured individuals in our community.

Date: Saturday, September 28
Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: William Ramsay Recreation Center, 5650 Sanger Ave

This event will feature free health screenings, connections to essential community resources, and fun activities. Our goal is to provide medical tests at no cost and guide participants to trusted clinics for ongoing care.
