Vic & Margaret Ball intern Ethan French welcomed his professor, Josh Craver (our YPC Advisor to the Board), to Altman Plants in Granville, IL, for an advisor visit in July!

During the visit, Josh toured the massive greenhouse facility with Ethan and his supervisor, Oscar, getting a closer look at the many crops Ethan has been working with throughout his internship, including kalanchoes, orchids, anthuriums, and poinsettias.

Ethan has been gaining hands-on experience across many areas of production, from monitoring kalanchoe leaf temperatures and learning about biological pest controls to checking poinsettia cuttings for rooting.

A big thank-you to Oscar and the entire Altman Plants team for providing Ethan with such a valuable internship experience!

This year’s convention theme was “Green It!” and we were excited to share Sustainabloom resources and learn from others about advancing sustainability in retail floristry.

Celebrating the volunteers behind AFE’s scholarship program! 🌺

AFE’s scholarship reviewers generously share their time and expertise to help ensure a fair and thoughtful selection process for student applicants. This year, 70 dedicated volunteers helped review more than 120 scholarship applications, leading to scholarships awarded to 23 students.

We are grateful for their commitment and the important role they play in creating opportunities for students across the floral industry.

Our Vic & Margaret Ball intern Allie Stuchlik welcomed her professor, Kim Williams, to Altman Plants in Peyton, CO, for an advisor visit in late June!

During the visit, Kim and K-State extension specialist in entomology Raymond Cloyd toured the production facility with Allie and Head Grower Andrew Melton, getting a closer look at how a large-scale greenhouse operation adapts production to its unique growing environment.

Allie has been making the most of her internship experience, including mapping the Trials Gardens and learning about the many facets of greenhouse production. The visit also gave Kim and Allie an opportunity to brainstorm potential research questions and see firsthand the experience Allie has gained this summer.

A big thank-you to Andrew and the entire Altman Plants team for providing such a fantastic internship experience!
