We have a problem.

Our Home Rehab Program has been helping families across Appalachia for years. 💙🏠

From repairing porches and floors to building wheelchair ramps, our partners help people stay safe and comfortable in their homes.

But just like these home repairs have been happening for years, many of the tools being used to do them have been around for years too.

As one of our partners told us, "A lot of our tools are over five years old." 🛠️

In one week, the Americans Helping Americans team will be heading to McDowell County, West Virginia to visit our Home Rehab partner, Big Creek People in Action (BCPIA) and hopefully bring them some much-needed new tools.

Over the next few days, we'll show you why these tools matter so much. ❤️

“A child’s hunger belongs to the whole holler.” 💙

That kind of community care has always been part of Appalachian life — neighbors showing up for one another.

This summer, Americans Helping Americans® is helping children across rural Kentucky and West Virginia attend camps where they receive meals, support, friendship, and a safe place to simply be kids. ☀️🏕️

Just $22 can help send one child to camp for a week. 🧡

Did you know? 📚

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found that interruptions in learning disproportionately affect children who may not have access to supportive learning environments outside of school.

That’s one reason summer programs matter so much for children in rural Appalachia. ☀️💙

“No food, no exercise, no interacting with friends — just staying home.”

This is a quote directly from one of our program partners in Appalachia.

And it’s a reminder that summer camp is about so much more than games and activities.

It’s about giving kids a safe place to learn, play, build confidence, make friends, and just enjoy being children for a while. ☀️
Because every child deserves that. 💙

“It was almost like Christmas for them!!!” 🎣🏕️

That’s how one volunteer described watching Appalachian children arrive at summer camp last year.

For some of these kids, camp meant things they don’t often get access to:
Swimming pools. Crafts. Games. Hiking trails. Being surrounded by friends their age.
But more than that, it meant getting a break from the stress and worries many children carry throughout the rest of the year. 💙

At camp, kids got to laugh, explore, learn new things, and just enjoy being children.
And honestly, every kid deserves that kind of summer memory. ☀️

👉 What’s one summer memory from your childhood you’ll never forget?

For some kids, summer camp is the best part of the year. ☀️💙

A chance to swim, laugh with friends, try new things, and just enjoy being a kid for a while. 🌊🏕️

This summer, Americans Helping Americans® is once again helping support camp programs in rural Kentucky, Georgia and West Virginia for children through our partners Cumberland Mountain Outreach (CMO) and Big Creek People in Action (BCPIA).

And for some of these kids, camp means experiences they’ve never had before — including learning to swim for the very first time.

Over the next week, we’re sharing more about these camps, the children they support, and why this week means so much to so many families.

💙 Food is on the way!

Through Americans Helping Americans®, summer feeding programs are reaching children where they are — delivering meals directly into communities that need them 🚌📦

Last year alone, more than 2,200 meals were distributed through these efforts. 🍽️
This summer, the need hasn’t gone away.

Could a program like this make a difference in your community? 💙 Comment below.

“Food delivery!” 📦

That’s what he hears at the door.

When school’s out, those regular meals go with it. And with grocery prices where they are right now, that’s not an easy gap for families to fill.

So when someone shows up at the door with food, it’s not just convenient — it’s needed 🍽️

It’s moments like this that remind you how important it is to look out for each other. 💙

❤️ Share this so more people see what moments like this really mean.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who show up, give their all, and do more than anyone sees. 💙❤️

Whether it’s long days, small moments, or everything in between — being a mom often means putting others first, over and over again.

And in many of the Appalachian communities we serve, that role doesn’t always fall to just one person. Grandmothers, aunts, and other caregivers often step in as the steady presence children rely on every day — raising families, holding things together, and showing up no matter what.

Today is a chance to recognize all of them.

To the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and every woman who steps into that role — thank you for everything you do. 💙

In Jefferson City, Tennessee, our partner Appalachian Ministries of the Smokies (AMOS) runs a summer feeding program that doesn’t happen in just one place.

🚌 Food is packed into a van and driven directly into neighborhoods — to housing communities and schools where families already are 🏡

Same stops. Same time. Every week.

“Having the same group of volunteers… allowed them to build relationships with the families.”

It’s not just about dropping off food People know who’s coming. They know when.

Why do you think that kind of consistency matters? 🤔
