LOCAL PROPOSITION - TOWN OF ALDEN
TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM TWO( 2) TO FOUR ( 4)

• This is a community initiative for Town and Village Residents

• This level of government with proper representation gives Town and Village residents an opportunity for their voices to be heard. Enhanced quality of life and improved services.

• Allows each council member to adequately cover their responsibilities. Improved accountability from within, with more checks and balances on town operation.

• Better communication for efficient government. Allows for sharing of ideas leading to fully developed decisions.

• When the 2 new elected council members are seated in January 2024, the town board can plan for it in the budgeting process leading up to it.

• With the other town’s that were downsized, all have approved or returned to a full 5 member board. Alden is now the only Town in NY State out of 932 that has a 3 member board.

We would like to thank those residents of Alden that have asked for and given their permission to have a “Restore” sign placed in their yard or property. This is a way of getting the message out about the upcoming vote and raising awareness as to what is happening in the community. It has started conversations with residents and allowed opportunities to explain what is taking place.
It has recently come to our attention that signs are being taken (stolen) from resident’s yards or property.
The committee has taken the time to research and get information out to the community regarding the restoration of the board, as well as encouraging people to get out to vote. Not to mention that it takes time, effort and money to purchase the signs and place them in yards. It also should be noted that there are legal ramifications for trespassing on someone’s property if you don’t have permission to remove the sign.
So we are asking the community to keep your eyes open and if you see someone taking a sign to notify the authorities.

It's Important to be informed before you go to the election polls on November 2nd.
"The Citizens for the Future of Alden, N.Y. " will be at the Alden Farmers Market on Saturday, October 9th , from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM to help educate the residents of Alden and answer any questions on the upcoming vote to restore the Alden Town Board to 5.

~ Proposition for Restoring Alden Town Board to 5 is on the November ballot ~

In 2009, sweeping changes took place in the Towns of Hamburg, Orchard Park, West Seneca, Evans, and Alden NY, reducing their town boards to 3 members, 2 council members and the supervisor. Since that time, Alden has been the lone holdout in approving to return to a full five member board.
It started in May of 2021 as a question at a Town Board Meeting and has led to the achievement of the initial objective for the Citizens for the Future of Alden, NY.
On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, the Alden Town Board approved a resolution for submission of a proposition to increase the number of council members from two to four, thus including the Supervisor, which would lead to the restoration of a five member board. The proposition has been certified by the Erie County Board of Elections, placing the proposition on the November 2, 2021 ballot. The Voters of the Village and Town of Alden will once again have the opportunity to have their voices heard.
This accomplishment was made possible by the hard work of many supporters.
Needing 188 signatures to get this resolution before the Alden Town Board, the volunteers were able to gather 556 signatures within a period of four weeks.
Knowing now that the proposition is on the ballot, the committee’s 2nd objective of continuing to gain the voters confidence and get a YES vote on November 2, 2021 will require an even more dedicated approach to highlight the many positive aspects of keeping the community informed.
