Alden Town Bicentennial

Alden Town Bicentennial Welcome to the official page for the Town of Alden, New York's Bicentennial. Planning is underway. Creativity is encouraged.

The celebration consists of a series of community events that will begin on the first day of the Town’s 200th year, March 28, 2022, and runs through March 2023. On March 27, 1823, the Town of Alden was established and codified in the Laws of the State of New York. In anticipation of the Town’s 200th anniversary, an ad-hoc Bicentennial Committee was created. The Committee has been meeting to organi

ze a bicentennial celebration that will begin on the first day of the Town’s 200th year, March 28, 2022, and runs through March 2023. Tentative events throughout the year include: A 200 Years Celebration set for July 28-31, 2022; Community Night Out on August 2, 2022; a Spooktacular Weekend in October 2022; New Year’s #200 on December 31, 2022; and a Birthday Party set for March 2023. Local civic groups, businesses and churches are invited to participate with bicentennial-themed events and programs of their own. The Bicentennial Committee hopes community organizations and businesses will use this opportunity to highlight their own histories and contributions to our Town.

If you plan on attending the Erie County Fair, be sure to stop at the Historical Building and have a look at the joint display created by the Alden Historical Society and the Newstead Historical Society in honor of the Bicentennial of the two towns.

The Erie County Fair opens this week and in honor of our joint Bicentennials, the Alden Historical Society and the Newstead Historical Society worked together to establish a display that represents key industries and businesses that were instrumental in the development of our respective towns. Thanks to Pat Pearce from Newstead, and Chris Gust, Sue DeWitt, Mike DeWitt, Sandy Dussault and Karen Muchow from Alden for planning and setting up the display. Please swing by the Historical Building at the Fair for a look at our booth as well as the booths from the 20+ other historical societies participating.
