A TROPHY AND A DAY TO REMEMBER

Congratulations to Local 49 member Rey Calderon, our third-place individual shooter at the 6th Annual Bereavement Fund Clay Shoot at Tinnin Hunt Club!

Rey’s accuracy earned him a spot among the day’s top three shooters. Along with the competition came plenty of smiles and the chance to enjoy a day with our union community.

With 21 teams and 99 participants, we raised more than $21,000 to help care for the families of members we’ve lost. Thank you, Rey, for bringing your skill and support to the event!

SKILL WORTH RECOGNIZING

Local 49 member Aaron Whiting earned second-place individual honors at our 6th Annual Bereavement Fund Clay Shoot at Tinnin Hunt Club. Congratulations, Aaron!

A day outdoors, time with friends, and a little friendly competition made for a great reason to come together. Aaron added an impressive performance and a trophy to the mix.

His participation helped support a fund that provides a $1,000 check to the beneficiary of a deceased Local 49 member. Thank you for showing up for our union families, Aaron!

FIRST PLACE AND PLENTY TO CELEBRATE

Congratulations to Luis Saavedra of the Albuquerque Area Firefighters IAFF Local 244 , our first-place individual shooter at Local 49’s 6th Annual Bereavement Fund Clay Shoot at Tinnin Hunt Club!

Luis brought the focus and accuracy to finish at the top among 99 participants. We appreciate our fellow union members joining us for a day of friendly competition and support for Local 49 families.

This year’s event raised more than $21,000 for our Bereavement Fund. Thank you, Luis, for being part of it. Well earned!

EARLY VOTING HAS BEGUN IN NEW MEXICO

Your vote helps decide who will represent you and make decisions about jobs, education, infrastructure, and public services.

Early voting gives you more flexibility to choose a day that fits your schedule. Planning ahead can help keep work, family commitments, or unexpected events from getting in the way on Election Day.

Here are the dates to know:

• October 6 — Early voting begins at county clerk offices

STANDING UP FOR APPRENTICESHIPS IN WEST TEXAS

On September 29, Sheet Metal Workers Local 49 Business Representative Shawn Smith testified in Austin, calling for the restoration of $3.7 million in proposed cuts to apprenticeship classroom funding.

Representing the West Texas Building and Construction Trades Council and SMART Local Union 49 Joint Apprenticeship Training Program , Shawn joined trades leaders in urging the Legislative Budget Board and the Governor’s Office to support the Texas Workforce Commission staff’s full funding recommendation.

The need is clear. Apprenticeship enrollment is growing across International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 602 , UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 404 JATC , the Carpenters, and Local 49. Our JATC has invested more than $1.3 million in its new Lubbock training center, and West Texas enrollment has more than doubled.

GOOD COMPANY. FRIENDLY COMPETITION. A CAUSE THAT MATTERS.

From sporting clays on the course, to raffle tickets and time with family, these moments capture the heart of Local 49’s 6th Annual Bereavement Fund Clay Shoot.

Held at Tinnin Hunt Club, the event brought members, families, contractor partners, and supporters together for a day of skill, focus, and giving back.

With 21 teams and 99 competitors, our community helped raise more than $21,000 through participation, donations, raffles, and sponsorship support. That's a 50% increase over last year! These funds help Local 49 provide a $1,000 benefit to the beneficiary of a deceased member.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, competed, and supported our union family.

Local 49 is proud to work with 27 contractor partners who work hard to keep projects moving, employ our members, and create opportunities across New Mexico and West Texas. Thank you for investing in skilled workers and the future of our trade.

"No one stands alone."

That was the message from Local 49 President Richard Stolenburgh Jr. as he welcomed everyone to our 6th Annual Bereavement Fund Clay Shoot at Tinnin Hunt Club in Bosque, NM.

We gathered to remember those we’ve lost and help care for our own when a family faces one of life’s hardest moments. With 21 teams and two sponsors, the event raised more than $21,000 for the Bereavement Fund.

Thank you to everyone who helped raise those funds and to Tinnin Hunt Club for hosting the event. Throughout the shoot, proper range safety, eye and ear protection, and a controlled shooting environment helped make it a safe day for everyone.

This apprenticeship training center is amazing, right in the heart of Atlanta! Everything is so brand new. More than 100 attendees from the Sheet Metal Industry Institute Conference gathered to tour the facility.
They were very excited to share their new space with us. Their training program has 300 apprentices. The classes are held at night and are taught by 20 part-time instructors. Congratulations, Local 85! Thanks for having us!
