🌏 The Lutheran Church of Myanmar has a story rooted in faithful, patient ministry. Christianity first reached the region in 1722, and the famous missionary Adoniram Judson became the first resident Protestant missionary in 1831. The first Lutheran missionary arrived in 1878.

In 1995, leaders from three congregations shaped by Martin Luther's teaching began preparing to start a Lutheran church body of their own. After years of preparation, the Lutheran Church of Myanmar was officially formed in 2000.

Pray with us: thank God for nearly two centuries of Gospel faithfulness in Myanmar and ask Him to continue building His church there.

🌏 Myanmar is home to more than 55 million people, and 83% of the population belongs to unreached people groups with little access to the Gospel. Only about 7% of the country is Christian, in a nation shaped for centuries by Buddhist tradition.

Through Awakening Lives to World Missions and the Lutheran Church of Myanmar (LCM), compassionate outreach and Gospel witness go hand in hand as pastors and evangelists serve communities across the country in Jesus' name.

🌏 BLMF's connection to ALWM goes back further than you might think.

Pastor Valery first contacted Director Bill Moberly in early 2006 to request partnership, not long after founding BLMF.

That relationship continued for years, and in 2022, BLMF officially joined ALWM as a ministry partner. It's a picture of what long term Gospel partnership looks like: showing up for each other, year after year, for the sake of the mission.

🌏Pastor Valery Hryhoryk's own story is remarkable. After serving in the navy, he became a Christian in 1992. He later studied theology in England, where he first encountered Luther's teaching on salvation by grace, a message very different from what he'd grown up believing.

He returned home to help rebuild the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Belarus after decades of communist suppression, and in 2004 became a pastor in Mazolovo village. A year later, he founded BLMF.

Today he's married to Tanya, a hairdresser, and they have a fifteen-year-old son, Anton.

Pray with us: thank God for Pastor Valery's faithful journey and ask Him to bless his family as he serves.

🌏 BLMF's ministry in Belarus is wonderfully multifaceted: music ministry, children's ministry, youth and young adult ministry, and serving the poor and needy.

Pastor Valery and his team meet real, practical needs alongside spiritual ones, showing the love of Christ in tangible ways. It's a model of ministry that cares for the whole person.

Pray with us: ask God to provide for the practical needs of the families BLMF serves, and to use each act of care to point people toward Jesus.

🌏 Pastor Valery's ministry reaches places you might not expect, including a school for the deaf, where he has preached the Gospel.

This is part of what makes BLMF's work so multifaceted: music ministry, children's ministry, youth outreach, care for the poor, and yes, ministry to the deaf community too.

Every person deserves to hear, in whatever way they can receive it, that Christ loves them.

Pray with us: ask God to open unique doors like this one, and to give Pastor Valery wisdom and compassion in every setting he serves.

🌏Some of the most meaningful ministry in Belarus happens in unexpected places, like the Garage Church in Vitebsk.

It's a small, humble space, but it reflects something true about the Gospel: it doesn't need a grand building to take root. Pastor Valery and BLMF have shown time and again that faithful ministry can happen anywhere people are willing to gather and listen.

Pray with us: ask God to bless every gathering, however small, and to draw people to Himself in Vitebsk.
