New Mexico Partners in Policymaking is a grassroots disability leadership and advocacy training. Its curriculum was developed by the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Disability and has been replicated both nationwide and overseas. Over the last 12 years, more than 200 people from all over New Mexico have graduated from this program, in order to create a more inclusive statewide community.
Local and national speakers deliver presentations and workshops on the following topics:
Disability History, Inclusive Education, Inclusive Community, Self-Determination, Supported Employment, Community Organizing, Federal and State Legislation, Conflict Resolution, and Working with the Media.
Acceptance to this program is competitive and self-advocates and family members of individuals who have disabilities are given priority. A small number of professionals in the field are accepted each year. We meet virtually for 17 classes; the dates and times are on the registration. If you are passionate about advocacy and inclusion, please consider applying.
