One of the leading voices in contemporary jazz, the Chilean-born tenor saxophonist and composer made history as the first woman to win an instrumental category in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Since then, she has earned acclaim for her deeply personal sound and collaborations with Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Joe Lovano, Danilo Pérez, Cécile McLorin Salvant and more.

The Melissa Aldana Quartet features Glenn Zaleski, piano; Pablo Menares, bass; and Kendrick Scott, drums.

Since forming their duo in 2017, pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and guitarist Mary Halvorson have developed a remarkable musical language built on fearless improvisation, intricate interplay and adventurous composition. Their acclaimed latest album, Bone Bells (2025), has been hailed as an essential contemporary jazz duo recording.

Courvoisier has collaborated with John Zorn, Wadada Leo Smith, Evan Parker and Fred Frith, while MacArthur Fellow Halvorson has been called by NPR “the most future-seeking guitarist working right now.”

One of the most celebrated drummers of his generation, Brian Blade has worked with Wayne Shorter, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Joshua Redman, Bill Frisell and countless others. For more than 25 years, his Fellowship Band has created a deeply expressive sound rooted in jazz, gospel, folk and the musical traditions of his native Louisiana.

Featuring longtime collaborator Jon Cowherd alongside Chris Thomas, Myron Walden and Melvin Butler.

Five-time GRAMMY Award-winning bassist, vocalist and composer esperanza spalding returns to the New Mexico Jazz Festival for a special trio performance at the Lensic.

One of the most distinctive and genre-crossing artists of her generation, spalding presents an intimate program centered around voice, bass and song—drawing from all eight of her previous albums, current releases, and offering a special preview of her forthcoming project.
