New World Screwworm has re‑emerged in the Americas and is spreading north. Any warm‑blooded animal, including humans, pets, and livestock, can be affected.

Watch for non‑healing wounds, visible larvae, foul odor, or a sensation of movement. Early recognition and fast reporting protect our communities.

Suspected cases must be reported immediately to NMDOH at 1‑833‑SWNURSE.

New federal Medicaid rules changed coverage for approximately 2,350 lawfully present immigrants on October 1, 2026.

The following immigrants will maintain Medicaid coverage:
-Lawful permanent residents (may need to meet waiting period.)
-Cuban-Haitian entrants
-Citizens of the Compact of Free-Associated States (COFA)
-Children under the age of 21 (who reside here lawfully)
-Pregnant individuals (who reside here lawfully)

New Mexico created a program to cover these Medicaid members who are enrolled as of September 30, 2026 and lost Medicaid coverage on October 1, 2026. This includes:
-Refugees
-Asylees
-Victims of trafficking
-Humanitarian parolees
-Other non-citizens who now have Medicaid
