New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty

New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty NMCLP is dedicated to advancing economic and social justice through education, advocacy & litigation

We envision a New Mexico that is vibrant with opportunities, and where all people’s human rights - including for food, housing, healthcare, a living wage, education, and equal access to justice - are met. We work with our communities to advance changes in the courts, legislature and public institutions. We focus on long-term systemic changes to laws, policies and programs that promote equity and justice.

Thirty years ago, NMCLP was born out of a belief that when New Mexicans come together with care and purpose, our communities become stronger. On this , we’re honoring that legacy—and building what comes next. Your gift today (which will be matched!) helps families access healthcare, secure fair wages, and protects essential programs and educational efforts across the state. Thank you for standing with us for 30 years—and for investing in the future we’re building together.

Big change grows from steady support.

This , we’re inviting our community to become $30/month sustainers in honor of our 30th anniversary. Monthly gifts help us respond quickly to emerging needs—from threats to healthcare access to attacks on worker protections—and allow us to stand with New Mexicans all year long. Join the movement for lasting justice in New Mexico. Become a monthly donor today: nmpovertylaw.org/donate

is a global day of generosity when people across the world—and here in New Mexico—come together to support the communities they care about most.
This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 30 years of NMCLP standing with New Mexicans to protect healthcare, education, wages, and the public programs families rely on.
Stay tuned for ways to participate — and help us meet our match on December 2nd!

“Our elders teach us that when we lose our language, our culture will die.” At this week’s press conference, Regis Pecos, Chair of the Tribal Education Alliance, reminded us that Yazzie/Martinez is a moral responsibility to confront and undo generations of educational and cultural erasure, restore what was ripped from our communities through assimilation and the boarding school era, and ensure our children inherit their languages, cultures, and all that defines them. We will not accept a state education plan that doesn’t honor that truth.

Families, students, educators, and community leaders came together at NMBLC yesterday to share early perspectives on PED’s Final Action Plan released this week — making sure it actually meets the needs of New Mexico students.

From honoring Native languages and cultures, to supporting students with disabilities, to ensuring Black, Brown, and students in low-income families have the resources they deserve — communities are setting the standard for equitable education.

A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers, organizations, and advocates whose tireless work continues to push for education equity in our state.
