Nuestra Salud Education and Research

The mission of Nuestra Salud is to increase collaborative partnerships with community-based organizations, higher education researchers, and state/city elected officials to work toward reducing health disparities affecting Hispanic communities in New Mexico and the nation through research, training, and outreach. Nuestra Salud was founded to address the void in culturally and linguistically sensitive programs that meet the health care needs of Hispanics around issues of cancer, diabetes, asthma, tobacco control, and other chronic diseases by Promoting interdisciplinary and interagency state-wide collaboration as a strategy for the development of multicultural resources to serve the Hispanic community

We are incorporated in New Mexico, based in Albuquerque, but work to link services in a national and binational capacity. We provide health education, patient navigation and psychosocial family support group services targeting the underserved Spanish speaking population.

Ventanilla de Salud (VDS) is a national public health model, originally developed in partnership with Mexican consulates, that embeds health services and education inside spaces Latino and Central American communities already trust and use, such as consulates, mobile consulate units, and community organizations.

VDS is Compassion & Choices' third-generation adaptation of that model, purpose-built to bring end-of-life education, advance care planning, and advance directive completion into those same trusted spaces.

This past year, alongside our partners, we reached nearly 60,000 people and helped them complete over 20,000 advance directives.

🗣️ Language shouldn’t be a barrier to compassionate care.

Meet Carmen Martínez, daughter of immigrants from Jalisco and a fierce advocate for immigrant workers’ rights. As Partnerships Manager at CDM, she knows firsthand how language can be the difference between access and exclusion.

📌 Fact: Over 35 million U.S. Latinos speak Spanish at home, yet many healthcare materials and discussions around end-of-life care are only in English.

📣 Carmen and her team from Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, Inc. is joining our April webinar series with Compassion & Choices to speak on how language justice saves lives—and why culturally grounded conversations matter more than ever.

📊 “Sin datos, no hay equidad.”

Meet Dra. Paulina Sosa Quintanilla, founder of Latinx Voces and a powerhouse in public health data and equity. From Johns Hopkins to the WHO, she’s been on the frontlines of epidemic response and making sure Latino voices are seen in the numbers.

🧠 Did you know? Less than 20% of public health datasets include disaggregated data for Latinos. Without accurate data, our community gets left out of life-saving resources and policies.

💬 Join us this April for our BILINGUAL webinar with Compassion & Choices and Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, Inc. as Paulina dives into the why behind data gaps and how they impact Latino end-of-life care. Let’s change the narrative—together.
