Most of Albuquerque's biggest debates about housing, transportation, and neighborhood growth don't start at City Council. They start in planning documents like Community Planning Area Assessments.

On June 24th, the City is hosting the Near North Valley & North I-25 CPA Open House, which will also be a chance to help shape the future of this area while enjoying free food, live music, community resources, and a bicycle carnival theme.

For Strong Towns ABQ, this is an opportunity to speak up for housing choice, safer and more productive streets, better transportation options, and fewer barriers to the kinds of traditional housing that have long been part of Albuquerque neighborhoods, including cottage courts, duplexes, and other small-scale homes.

If you've ever said Albuquerque needs more housing, better transit, or stronger neighborhoods, this is your chance to help shape the plan.

We'll catch ART as a group from the Central & Unser Transit Center immediately after the meeting ends at 7:00 PM and ride downtown together to Lasso (601 Gold Ave SW).

Whether you're a longtime member, a housing advocate, transit rider, urbanist, budget nerd, road safety champion, or simply curious about Strong Towns, we'd love to have you join us for good conversation and community.

Strong Towns ABQ is hosting a Newcomer Orientation on Wednesday, May 27th from 6–8 PM at the Homewise Center Conference Room (500 2nd St SW)! 🌆

Whether you’re brand new to Strong Towns, curious about urbanism in Albuquerque, or looking for ways to get more involved locally, this is a great place to start.

We’ll talk about:

We’re hosting a hands-on session where you can plug in a real property in Albuquerque and actually see what’s allowed under the IDO—and what it would take to build it. Housing types, parking, setbacks, all of it.

Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, neighbor, or just zoning-curious, this is a chance to demystify the code and understand what’s possible on the ground.

ABQ’s transit system is at a turning point.

The City is proposing cuts to ABQ Ride including eliminating 50+ positions like drivers and mechanics.

At the same time, Ride Forward is supposed to bring:
• More frequent buses
• Better connections
• Shorter wait times

These cuts could delay or derail those improvements before they even begin.

This matters even if you don’t ride the bus.
Fewer buses = more cars, more congestion, and fewer options for everyone.
