Join us for our May Strong Towns ABQ Monthly Meeting

We will be gathering at Homewise for a conversation on how Albuquerque can grow stronger, more connected, and more resilient

We’re excited to welcome Matthew McQueen who will be joining us virtually to talk about how State Trust Land could be better used in our cities. What if this land could help unlock more housing and support thriving neighborhoods?

As always, this is a space for open conversation, shared learning, and meeting others who care about Albuquerque’s future

Got an address you’ve been curious about? Bring it.

We’re hosting a hands-on session where you can plug in a real property in Albuquerque and actually see what’s allowed under the IDO—and what it would take to build it. Housing types, parking, setbacks, all of it.

Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, neighbor, or just zoning-curious, this is a chance to demystify the code and understand what’s possible on the ground.

ABQ’s transit system is at a turning point.

The City is proposing cuts to ABQ Ride including eliminating 50+ positions like drivers and mechanics.

At the same time, Ride Forward is supposed to bring:
• More frequent buses
• Better connections
• Shorter wait times

These cuts could delay or derail those improvements before they even begin.

This matters even if you don’t ride the bus.
Fewer buses = more cars, more congestion, and fewer options for everyone.

📍 Thursday, May 7 — 5:00 PM
📍 City Hall (Committee of the Whole)

🗣 Give a 1–2 minute public comment
📩 Or email City Council

If you’ve ever said Albuquerque needs better transit—this is the moment to show it.

👉 Not sure what to say? Join our comment workshop May 4.

As we begin to close the door on our most recent round of IDO advocacy, we’re also opening a new chapter for Strong Towns ABQ.

At this month’s meeting, we’ll be reflecting a bit on where we’ve been, sharing where we’re headed next, and talking about how Strong Towns ABQ is continuing to grow. Over the past year, more and more people have found their way into this work, and we’ve been putting energy into building the structure, campaigns, task forces, and organizing capacity that can help sustain and deepen that momentum.

We’ll talk about our current and upcoming work, ways to get more involved, and what this next season of Strong Towns ABQ can look like. Whether you’ve been around for a while or are just curious to learn more, this is a great meeting to plug in, ask questions, and help shape what comes next.

Are you an incremental builder — or just incremental-builder curious? 🏡🔨

Strong Towns ABQ is cultivating a space for people interested in actually building more homes in Albuquerque whether that means a casita, duplex, cottage court, lock-off apartment, small rehab, or just learning what it takes to make projects like that possible here.

This won’t be a stuffy expert-only meeting. It’s a chance to connect with neighbors, small-scale builders, homeowners, advocates, and curious people who want to better understand what it takes to build housing in Albuquerque and what’s still getting in the way.

We’ll talk about:
✅ barriers to small-scale development
✅ what recent IDO changes mean
✅ financing ideas for missing middle housing
✅ recommendations from the ABQ Incremental Development Alliance
✅ how we can help make it easier to build homes in our city

Whether you’ve renovated a house, built a backyard casita, dreamed about a fourplex, or just want Albuquerque to make more sense — you’re welcome.
