At YES Housing, Inc.’s Imperial Building in Downtown Albuquerque, we recently had a productive day harvesting garlic with James Landry of Mission ABQ, his interns, and our resident volunteers. The garlic will spend a couple of weeks curing in the shade before it’s ready for distribution, and it will continue to grow and be harvested into the winter months.
The garden beds where the garlic was planted will soon be filled with sweet potatoes. This year’s long growing season allows us to grow crops in succession, maximizing the limited space of Imperial’s rooftop community garden. We also had some early potatoes, garlic chives, and green onions, ensuring that we are always planting something new in the space that becomes available.
Thank you to everyone at Mission ABQ and the resident volunteers for all of their hard work!
