Women To Be

Women To Be We give girls hope. Women and girls around the world live without underwear and no feminine hygiene products. Some girls think they have HIV or cancer. Thank you.

Women To Be hires in-need women to fabricate and distribute 'kits' of underwear, washable sanitary pads, and a s*x education class to girls in Zambia, Nepal, and Mexico. This is certainly the grim reality for women and girls in refugee camps in Nepal where a friend of mine grew up, and where I delivered “kits” containing these items in November, 2014. This year, I’m focusing on the Kingdom of Mus

tang also in Nepal. My mission is to deliver 1000 “kits” to women and girls who live in this remote Himalayan Shangri La. The Prince of the Kingdom and the Lama of the region are in full support. Women and girls without pads:

Contract chronic infections
Drop out of school 25-30% of the time due to missed time and embarrassment
Marry early and have more children
Are limited every month to work and care for their families
Suffer a lack of human dignity and self respect

My friend told me that most of the time, she simply used and reused rags to help herself. Many have no idea of what to expect in s*xual in*******se and pregnancy. Are you as sad as I am? Help me change this! My mission is to raise money to help these kind and gentle people. I will:

Organize people to sew and fabricate “kits” that contain pads, underwear and cleaning methods. Deliver these kits to the women. They are good for 3 years and there is nothing to throw away. Open up the conversation on s*x, pregnancy, and domestic violence. It’s a lot of work to organize this. What you can do is donate. For $50 you can improve the quality of life for three women for three years. Imagine that! Have you always wanted to make difference in the world? Well, here’s your chance! Sometimes there are powerful freedoms in small things.

Peter and Christine leaving Denver this morning with the socks. We owe Sue Lee of Sock-It-To-Em for organizing this donation. There are thousands of people out there whose days were a little brighter with clean, comfortable socks. In the end, it’s all about them.

Christine Glidden of Women To Be was in Denver to pick up 11,000 pairs of Bomba socks to deliver to Albuquerque Homeless, Veterans, and Navajo Nation on Friday. She is shown here with Cassandra and Julian from U-Haul who gave her a big discount on the truck. Thank you!

Hello Friends!

Move over to our new page to be included in our exciting trip to Nepal. We’ll be distributing underwear and reusable sanitary pads to girls there who don’t have what they need every month to stay in school. We’ll be meeting girls, visiting our new sewing center, and hiking the Himalaya.

To celebrate International Women’s Day last week, see the video from the Nepal Leadership Academy which includes our Founder, Christine Glidden.

Above is an article from the New York Times that harshly points out the hypocrisy of the NFL. These Gruden emails are written behind the players’ backs while in public, Gruden says he supports Blacks, women, and g**s. Ha! What a scammer! This is the same misogyny that exists around the world and creates the cultures that keeps girls under control by not supplying effective menstrual supplies to them. What if boys needed menstrual supplies? Think things might be a little different? Link to the full story will be posted on our bio. Thank you for tuning in📫

Here is an excellent article describing the human rights issue associated with lack of menstrual health in Africa. It discusses how ineffective menstrual health management and lack of reproductive health awareness leave a girl at the whim of culture and environment. Lacking these two things, she often lives a life of dependence, poverty, ill-health, and lack of dignity. Talk about this today with friends and colleagues, Make sure everyone you know realizes the worldwide system of neglect it (we) imposes on girls. Then, do something about it. Link will be in the bio for more!💚✨

During one of our larger kit distributions, we met this little boy who discovered a new use for kits. He hung the ribbon drawstring of the bag around his head and had some fun giving us the peace sign.  Just like all kids in all countries, on all continents, he just wants to play and have fun. And to experience relationship.

I was thinking about this. Kids around the world are so much the same and they grow up to be the same.  We all want the same things- health, family, relationship, peace, and the things that sustain us like food and heat. Right?

When I travel to distribute kits, I look into the eyes of women I have never met and don’t speak a shared language.  But I find that these women and I share life experience.  We understand each other.  We know the feeling of periods, of child birth, of bringing love into the home.  They say that women meeting for the first time, understand each other better than their husbands do.  I think that’s true.

Often, I am asked why I focus Women To Be on other countries 8000 miles away when there is so much need in New Mexico.  It’s because I believe that when we elevate the wellbeing of a girl in Nepal, we elevate the lives of everyone on the planet.  Dignity is shared. Dignity has not bounds or borders.

Should we only help people in our neighborhood? Our city? Our state? Our country? Our hemisphere? Why do we draw these arbitrary boundaries? Women To Be goes where it is needed. See how we do it and check us out on our website located on our Instagram and Facebook. Thank you for tuning in.

Councilman Mark Freeland of the Navajo Eastern Agency and Vera Morgan of Pinedale welcomed us over the weekend as the Rotary Club of Albuquerque funded 8 trips of food and cleaning supplies delivery to be conducted over the next 3 months. Here we are on the back of the truck. This trip was especially important because recent rain meant that many people, mostly elders, were stuck in their homes. You can see what mud does! This car broke down in the mud and needed to be rescued. I know it has been awhile since we have posted. Thank you all for joining in and staying connected with us.
