Greetings, populace of Pegasus Valley!
Our Spring 2025 Crown Quals event is almost upon us. Below are the pertinent details for the Cultural Events:
Date: Saturday, April 5th
Time: 12:30p (sign-ins open) to 1:30p (sign-ins close)
Location: Taylor Park (NE corner of Pennsylvania and Indian School) in Albuquerque, NM
The Cultural Events shall be run per DS Corpora. Please note that if you plan to enter a Vintners or Mixology item that is alcoholic, our park does not allow this entry due to city regulations. Please make arrangements with the Autocrat for this item to be judged separately from the event on April 5th.
Section 4. CULTURAL EVENTS (Item #1 excluded as it pertains to Dragonmaster)
2. The Cultural Events are held as part of the Crown Qualifications process and shall consist of the following seven categories, each of which is broken up into individual sub-categories.
1. Garbing, which shall be divided into the individual sub-categories of Field Garb, made for wear to regular park meetings; Court Garb, made for wear during court or formal functions; Monster Garb, made for the portrayal of a monster class; and Garb Accessory, such as belts, pouches, and favors.
2. Art, which shall be divided into the individual sub-categories of Flat Art, which is any two-dimensional artistic medium; 3-D Art, which is any three-dimensional artistic medium; Kit, which is anything made from a kit, such as miniatures or ceramics; Needlework, which is any embroidery, crochet, beadwork, and other such fiber arts; Jewelry, which is any item made to be worn as jewelry; Photography, which is any photograph of people, places or events related to the genre of Amtgard; and Media, which is any movie, webpage, or digitally-enhanced art, or digital tools and software.
3. Literature, which shall be divided into the individual sub-categories of Fiction, which shall be any fictional work; Non-Fiction, which shall be any factual work; and Poetry, which shall be any poetic work in any poetic style.
4. Cooking, which shall be divided into the individual sub-categories of Main Dish, which is any food served as a main course; Side Dish, which is any food served to accompany a meal; Vintners, which is any beverage that has been fermented by a brewing or distillation process; Dessert, which is any food served primarily as a dessert; Condiment, which is any sauce, dressing, chutney, etc.; and Mixology, which is any beverage that has at least one homemade ingredient, but does not include any brewing or distillation.
5. Construction, which shall be divided into the individual sub-categories of Weapon, any weapon that is legal for Amtgard use; Unique Weapon, any unique or unusual weapon made in the manner of Amtgard weapons, but does not have to be legal for Amtgard use; Shield, which is any shield, buckler, or madu that is legal for Amtgard use; Armor, made for use on the battlefield; Banner, which is any banner; Active Construction, which is any equipment not already covered by another event that is made for battlefield use, such as siege weaponry; and Passive Construction, which is any item not covered by another event that is not made for battlefield use, such as chests, furniture, or pavilions.
6. Bardic, which shall be divided into the individual sub-categories of Singing, with or without accompaniment; Instrumental Music, which is any musical performance on a musical instrument; Dance, which is any dancing; and Recitation, of any story, poetry, comedy, drama, etc.
7. Rose, which is any additional entry made and donated to the Kingdom or park.
3. A strategic gaming category may also be held, including but not limited to games such as chess, pente, and so on.
1. A qualification earned from strategic gaming does not count towards becoming Arts and Sciences champion of that tournament.
4. All entries (or items) except cooking must be related in some way to Amtgard or the related genres.
5. All cooking entries should be made primarily from scratch and should include enough so that all judges can get an adequate taste of the entry.
6. Individual entries must be at least 85% the work of the person entering them.
7. Joint entries will be allowed provided that each entrant shared significantly in the work of producing the entry in question.
8. No item may be entered in more than one sub-category.
9. Items entered in an inappropriate sub-category may be moved to another sub-category by the autocrat of the event with the permission of the entrant.
10. Should a vintners category take place, it shall be judged at a different time and location than the other cultural events unless the location used permits alcohol.
1. All judges for the vintners event must be at least 21 years of age.
11. An Arts and Sciences Champion shall be determined by taking the seven best events for each contestant and averaging the scores.
1. A contestant must enter at least seven different Cultural Events to be qualified to become the Arts and Sciences Champion.
12. The Monarch and Regent should consider granting any awards or Orders for outstanding entries in the Cultural Events. Entries that exceed the available Orders of the local park (e.g. Shire may award up to 2nd Orders) should be referred to the Kingdom Monarchy for award.
1. In order to award entrants from other parks, recommendations must be approved by the Kingdom Monarch.
