Founded in December 2012, the HSCO has grown exponentially into a full size orchestra since then. Started by a small group of avid music lovers, the group began as an idea โ to give those in the medical sciences at UNM a creative, musical outlet in the form of an orchestra to be part of Arts-in-Medicine. That idea quickly grew into reality when at our very first rehearsal in January of 2013, with
little time for advertising or marketing, we had over 70 musicians in attendance! Through that very first semester, the orchestra established itself as a group whose common interests in music spurred a desire to come together and share what they love. Since that time, the orchestra has given concerts at the Health Sciences Center, the Children's Center, Keller Hall at the CFA on the UNM Campus, and the ABQ BioPark Zoo. The orchestra is a volunteer organization, and is therefore completely self-run. Our operating budget comes from the generosity of the concert-going public, and from fundraising efforts throughout the semester. Our current orchestral board includes:
Patrice Repar, Arts-In-Medicine Director
Wayne Thelander, Music Director and Conductor
Matthew Forte, UNM Director of Orchestral Studies and Conductor
John Dickinson and Laura Dickinson, Co-Presidents
Lee Anne Klombies, Vice President
Joyce Phillips, Treasurer
Lorrie Fenton, Secretary
Ellen Mozurkewich, Orchestra Manager
Timothy Ohlert, Student Liaison
Bronwyn Wilson, School of Medicine Liaison
