Two things to bring up:

1) Today (Tuesday) is the last day to register for this weekend's event. Here's the link: msreg.com/2026-rgrscca-points-3-4

2) If you have a special request or restriction, please use the
Special Request section of the registration form. This includes
co-driver in same/opposite heat, medical restrictions, etc. Not using this causes delays at the event and significantly lowers the
possibility of your request being accommodated (NOTE: they're not guaranteed, but we try). If you forgot to fill this out, please log back in and edit your entry.

If you have any questions, contact Jaik directly.

See you this weekend!

Hello autocrossers!

Noise pollution in autocross has been getting a lot of attention recently in SCCA, especially along the lines of losing venues due to noise pollution (yes, this has happened to a few regions in the US) and worker hearing safety. SCCA Solo has a sound limit of 108 decibels (dB(C), specifically) and it's enforced at every national event. RGR has had some very loud cars show up and we've decided to start measuring sound at our events to mitigate the above issues. We've ordered new equipment and will start using it this weekend. We don't want to ruin anyone's weekend, so won't be immediately assessing penalties for cars in excess of 108 db(C), but will require changes before the next event weekend or that car may not be eligible to compete. There are several "fixes" for a loud car; examples include installing a muffler or resonator or a turn down tip.

With renewed activity at the horse stables and our proximity to homes in the area, we want to keep a positive relationship with our only site and keep our members’ hearing safe as they work the course, particularly starter who is the closest to cars.

Below is the link to an article from SCCA about how sound is measured at National events. If you have any questions, email Cara or Jaik directly.

The next RGRSCCA autocross is in less than two weeks on May 23-24 (Memorial Day weekend) at McGee Park in Farmington, NM. Currently registration is very light. Please get yourself signed up ASAP if you are planning to attend. As always, your credit card will not be charged until the day before the event starts and there is no penalty for cancelling. It's a lot easier to drop registrations than to add people at the last minute on site or after registration has closed.

Also, starting at the next event (Points #5/6 on June 20-21) the cost of weekend memberships will be increased to $20. This is a passthrough to the SCCA national organization, and they increased the price from $15 to $20 this year. We have not increased registration at the local level in over a decade but this increase is beyond our control. Considering a weekend membership gets you two events in a single weekend, still not a bad deal but you may also want to consider a full SCCA membership if you are on the edge. As a reminder, you must be a full SCCA member to qualify for year-end season trophies.

Registration is now open for our first Farmington event weekend of the year. We'll start with a Test and Tune (TnT) on Friday April 24. This will be the same general format as last year's TnT and is limited to 16 experienced attendees (no novices, please).

Points events #1 and #2 will be Saturday and Sunday, April 25 & 26. A couple of things to note as it will be our first competition event of the year. 1) We have grouped the Street Touring classes into their PAX classes (ST1/ST2/ST3) slightly differently this year so make sure you choose the correct PAX class. 2) We will be setting up and aiming for first car off slightly earlier this year with a more limited arrival window during which registration and tech will be open. Please pay attention and don't be caught out by this change!

Please get signed up early and don't wait until the last minute. You can always cancel with no penalty before the event.

Hey everyone, we are less than 3 weeks away from our March 28 SCCA Autocross Novice School at the Expo NM State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque! We still have a few slots available for people looking to try out autocross for the first time or who have only done a couple of events and want a day of one-on-one learning from our driving instructors.

This is Rio Grande Region SCCA's only local event of the year as the rest of our season takes place up at McGee Park in Farmington, NM, where we have access to a great asphalt lot bigger than anything available in Albuquerque. This is your chance to see if you like autocross enough at an Albuquerque site to make the trip up to Farmington for a weekend autocross vacation.

No prior experience is needed, and you don't need a sports car to participate. Your family sedan is perfectly acceptable. You will learn how your car behaves at its limits and be a better driver on the street in emergency situations.

Get signed up now before all slots are filled! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or message us directly.

Attention novice drivers!

RGRSCCA is happy to announce their 2026 Novice Autocross School to be held 3/28/2026 at the NM Expo State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque. This is our only event in Albuquerque for the year, and registrations will be limited to 24 students for the school.

Following last year's successful event, we're once again offering an Autocross School for novice drivers. What's a novice driver? Any driver who has never been to an autocross before, or who has been to less than five autocross events. Come learn the basics of high-performance driving in an autocross setting using traffic cones to define a temporary race course. Your race is against the clock, not against other drivers wheel-to-wheel. In this course you'll learn how to navigate a course and drive quickly through elements such as slaloms, offset gates, and sweepers. You'll learn about car control and how your car handles at its limits. All in a safe, noncompetitive environment where YOU control how hard you're willing to push yourself and your car.

Location: Expo NM Midway Lot - Enter at Gate 3 (San Pedro & Copper)

We hope everyone enjoyed themselves at the 2025 banquet on Saturday. In our excitement seeing everyone, we forgot to announce our new co-Solo Chairs. Please welcome Cara Balestrieri and Jaik Ortiz! Cara will be handling much of the on-site duties while Jaik will be helping with the registration process and setting up events on the timing computer.

We also want to give one last thank you to Tom Reynolds for his years serving as Solo Chair. Enjoy your retirement from the position!
