We love our 1 M resolution on the Lidar layers it's great for finding Culverts or trails under trees!
How detailed is the terrain on your map, really? 👀
Elevation data is a big part of what determines how detailed your map is. And let’s be honest: any elevation data is a huge win. Without it, there’s no 3D, no shaded relief, no slope angle shading, and no elevation profile. But the resolution of that data varies a lot from place to place, and higher resolution means more detail.
Knowing the resolution of the elevation data you’re working with helps you decide how much detail to expect, especially when you’re analyzing slopes or avalanche terrain.
The new LiDAR Coverage overlay shows the resolution of the elevation data behind the map anywhere in the world. It uses a simple, fixed color scheme that’s easy to read at a glance:
-Pinks and oranges = lower resolution (19, 10, and 5 m/px)
-Blues and purples = LiDAR quality (2 and 1 m/px)
Now you can check before you trust the details.
LiDAR Coverage is available to all users on web and mobile. To add it, open the Map Layers menu, click or tap the gear icon, search “LiDAR Coverage,” and check the box to add it to your Overlays list.
