Barelas Community Coalition A neighborhood coalition for positive change

The Barelas Community Coalition envisions a community where (re)development is carried out in a responsible way that benefits all of its members by providing permanently affordable housing for existing residents, creating living-wage jobs, investing in youth/adult education and development, and working with residents, business owners, local organizations, and elected officials to achieve social, economic, and environmental justice.

Tonight and this Saturday!

Tonight at 7pm ESPEJOS DE AXTLAN is honored to have Linda Garcia Benavides, Chuy Martinez and LaLa Gonzales, activists, chairs and coordinators of the NMSSPC.

We will discuss how the formerly "Recuerda a Cesar Chavez Committee" was this year rebranded as the "New Mexico ¡Sí Se Puede! Committee" reflecting a broader mission—to uplift all voices fighting for dignity, equity, and human rights across the state.
They will aslo share all the details about their coming event:
“Voces de la Comunidad / Community Voices”, a free community gathering centered on unity, advocacy, and people power where culture, education, and activism come together—a reflection of our community’s strength, resilience, and voice.
It will happen this coming Saturday, April 25, 2026, from10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the historic Albuquerque Rail Yards, including:
• Live performances from powerful local artists, including headliner Mala Maña
• Cultural expression through music, poetry, and dance
• Community resources and educational opportunities
• A reimagined cultural experience: La Marcha de la Comunidad—a unifying procession inspired by tradition

This talented young New Mexico band is keeping our culture alive through music. Blending New Mexican and Hispanobeat sounds, they represent a new generation that honors tradition while bringing fresh energy to the stage.

In a world where culture can easily be lost, choosing to play and uplift New Mexican music is a powerful act of preservation and pride.

Their music is more than sound—it’s storytelling.
It’s identity.
It’s resistance.
It’s community in motion.

✨ When they play, they’re not just performing—
they’re carrying forward the heartbeat of our culture for the next generation.

Come out, feel the rhythm, and celebrate the voices that keep our traditions alive.

✨ Enjoy:
• Free community resources
• Family-friendly activities
• Local vendors & food
• Live music that moves the soul

Cruising Central, showing up strong - y Barelas presente!

Mil gracias for the shoutout National Geographic! 🔥💖

Lowriding had been outlawed across the U.S. Now, it’s making a comeback — and nowhere more fashionably than in Albuquerque, thanks to a passionate group of locals.
