Photographer 📸 Charlie Lansche, aka on Instagram - "Rock with Wings" - To say there is something special about the landscape, light and weather in New Mexico is putting it mildly. Its people, cultures, myth and legend combine to make it truly unique and magical. This desert monolith, rising 1,700 feet above the desert floor, is known most commonly by the name Shiprock. But to the Navajo people, this sacred eroded volcanic plume is known as Tse Bi dahi, or the Rock with Wings. This name comes from an ancient folk myth that tells how the rock was once a great bird that transported the ancestral people of the Navajos to their lands in what is now northwestern New Mexico. And walking upon this landscape one can't help but respect and revere such a powerful place and its significance to indigenous people who call it home."
