CELab founder Mark Lautman is quoted in this Albuquerque Journal article as saying this current period of uncertainty and tight budgets could trickle down to economic development efforts, making it harder to replace lost jobs.
“There’s going to be a massive consolidation of economic development efforts.”

ARE YOU A COMMUNITY BUILDER?

You're invited to my state's Basic Economic Development Course, which will be delivered online this year via Zoom over six weeks, starting July 19. The basic courses in many states have been canceled, so this is a way for many to pick up the professional development this year unimpeded.

Please register by July 10 at iaecondev.org/registration.

Sanctioned by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), this course is the first step in becoming a credentialed economic development professional, but the course is not just for those with "economic development" in their titles. This course is also excellent for a variety of professionals who are community builders and work to promote the economic prosperity of where they live.

Economic Developers and Local Government Leaders:

Catastrophic job losses caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic compel communities to seek tools and information that enable them to effectively respond to the changing economic landscape.

The CELab, a nonprofit economic development think tank, offers a guided process to assess the trajectory of the economic downturn and to estimate the job creation needed to recover. The consensus-driven snapshot that materializes through a daylong deliberation enables a community to effectively communicate damage estimates and to describe which program theaters need emergent care in order to stabilize the economy and eventually resume growth strategies.

With your Economic Crisis Flash Assessment report, you’ll have:
• Initial scenarios for economic contraction and recovery.
• Actionable intelligence on where is the greatest potential for slowing the contraction and accelerating the recovery.
• The foundation needed for developing an operational plan.
• An effective way to educate and communicate with constituents, partners and stakeholders.

If you're ready to chart your community's comeback, contact us.
