Become a member and meet the world!!

We are excited to invite you to a Nelson Mandela Day of Peace Membership Drive for Global Ties ABQ on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. This special event is an opportunity to connect with like-minded folk, learn more about Global Ties ABQ, and help us continue fostering international understanding through citizen diplomacy.

As a New Mexico registered nonprofit, Global Ties ABQ is part of a network that hosts U.S. Department of State Professional Exchange Programs. In 2025 alone, we hosted 263 visitors from 89 countries. Through these programs, high-placed professionals, including over 500 current and former heads of state, have visited the United States.

Membership provides unique opportunities to engage with international visitors through home dinners, attending meetings, accompanying cultural activities, and participating in other group events. These experiences allow our members to build meaningful connections while helping to foster global understanding right here in New Mexico.

“Our engagement with our fellow put emphasis on extending our mutual networks”, says Robert Dzur, Spatial Data Analyst at Bohannan-Huston. He adds, “In fact, we have already engaged with a public agency client in Colorado that shares our sector interests related to infrastructure. This engagement offered the opportunity to share both the innovative work our fellow does in his home country as well as how we are partnering” .

Bohannan-Huston is an ABQ based civil and structural engineering firm offering traffic and transportation engineering, water resources, land surveying, GIS, photogrammetry, and advanced technologies services. They hosted YLAI Fellow, Alejandro Flores from Honduras who owns Topo Drones, a company which offers topographic surveys, precision agriculture, and GIS analysis using drones, GNSS-RTK, and conventional surveying tools

It was a match made in heaven!

Alejandro gained invaluable insight into the U.S. Construction sector, but more importantly, was able to develop contacts in market as well as help B-H tap into new markets . Mr. Dzur says, “We have another similar engagement scheduled for this week with a partner firm we collaborate with in Mexico. Here again, I believe the program is unique in its ability to foster and contribute to longer term regional business strength across the US, North, Central America and beyond.”

We love happy endings, but wait, this is just the beginning!!

Supporting global ties isn’t just about learning and sharing new cultures, it also includes establishing real and mutually beneficial partnerships!

Katie and Kristina are sisters-in-law, one a biomedical scientist and the other a natural skincare artisan. They live in Albuquerque where they created a revolutionary new line of skincare products, K& K, that supports the skin’s natural healing process.

They market and sell their products globally. They also believe in supporting global exchange. In 2024, they hosted a fellow from Poland with whom they were able to market a key product line, entering into the European market! This year, they hosted a Young Latin America Initiative (YLAI) Fellow, Laura Ortiz, from the Dominican Republic.

Laura is the founder of Gingerly Shop, a skincare line she manufactures and sells in the D.R. She worked with K&K to learn more about the U.S. market but she also pioneered a market expansion and export-readiness project focused on one or more priority Latin American or Caribbean markets. As a result, Laura is taking K&Ks After Shower Body Serum and repackaging it as the Skin Soother Body Serum, co-branded under both Gingerly and K&K Skin Products for their market! They are also working to rebrand and sell some of Gingerly Shop’s products in the U.S.

YLAI is the U.S. Department of State’s flagship program for emerging entrepreneurs and business leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean. Designed to promote mutual understanding and build a network of young business leaders, the program brings young leaders to the U.S. for entrepreneurial leadership training and fellowships with U.S. companies and enterprises. Global Ties ABQ has hosted and secured ABQ based partnering organizations for 3 YLAI cohorts to date: 2021, 2025 and 2026.
