This is what 15 years of community looks like.

Diana Castillo is an Encuentro student who completed her citizenship process with support from NMILC.
Her story brings together so much of what we’re celebrating this year: learning, community, partnership, and opening new possibilities for immigrant families in New Mexico.

Encuentro and NMILC are both turning 15.
And the best part of our story has always been the people.

15 years don’t happen alone. They happen with community, with people showing up for each other, and with partners who stay in the fight together.
Rachael LaZar from El CENTRO has been part of that story.
This year, NMILC and Encuentro are both turning 15, and we’re celebrating the people and community who helped us get here.

Andrea Plaza has been there from the beginning, watching Encuentro grow alongside a community that has shaped who we are and what we do.

This year, Encuentro and NMILC are both turning 15. That means we get to celebrate a shared history, years of working side by side, and the many people who have been part of the journey.

Two organizations. One big quinceañera.

She was there at the beginning.
Jenny Landau, one of NMILC’s founders and now an advisor to the organization, remembers how it all started long before we knew where the next 15 years would take us.
This year, there’s even more to celebrate: NMILC and Encuentro are both turning 15.
We’ve come a long way. Celebrate with us at our joint Quince gala celebration!

Yesterday, we celebrated Citizenship Day alongside Encuentro and El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos, honoring new U.S. citizens and celebrating the strength and civic participation of immigrant communities in New Mexico.

Citizenship can bring important rights and protections, including greater protection from deportation, opportunities to petition family members, and the ability to vote and participate more fully in the decisions that shape our communities.

At NMILC, we believe everyone who is eligible should have the opportunity to pursue citizenship and fully exercise the rights that come with it.

If you are interested in applying for U.S. citizenship or renewing or replacing your green card, call us for a free intake at 505-247-1023. Our citizenship and green card renewal/replacement services are free and available in person by appointment or over the phone.
