Lawrence Charles Vargas Shoes-for-Kids & Acts of Compassion ...taking adversity & channeling it into positive outcomes through our son's memorial project of giving shoes and books along w/a message of hope & healing

"LOVE NEVER ENDS"... Lawrence Charles Vargas Memorial Shoes-for-Kids & Acts of Compassion” was created in memory of our son/brother who was an innocent bystander killed (at age 23) in a senseless act of violence. He was a budding artist and had hopes of becoming a firefighter--a dream he never realized. Lawrence Charles was a “giver”. How he loved shoes and how he loved to give them away! He was k

nown for his random acts of kindness and compassion. At the age of 11, he was featured in a book recognizing his artistic abilities that was used to teach children to read. The book was designed to help build good readers, but more importantly to inspire children to love reading. Through sales of his father and brother's (as well as his!) southwestern artwork & donations, this organization was formed in the spirit of giving with a message about ‘paying it forward’-- & keeping his memory alive. To date we have given away over 6000 pairs of shoes and hundreds of books in his memory. With each pair of shoes, comes a message of healing, hope and love. With each book, the importance of literacy and education in the process. It is our hope that our son's story will inspire children to practice acts of kindness and to read, read, read~becoming strong citizens who give back to their community.

We were blessed with brand new shoes at their annual Christmas party! 🎄❤️🎄These compassionate, energetic women with big hearts promote their love of New Mexico in such a beautiful way. Lawrence & I (& Lawrence Charles!) were honored that his project was chosen to benefit from their giving hearts! “These boots are made for walking” … 🥾👢and donating to Ruth’s Closet—‘a no questions asked’ program that treats all women in transition with dignity & respect as they get on their feet. Many are coming from domestic abuse shelters, drug rehabs, CYFD, prison & more, according to Mary Padilla, coordinator. She hoped for boots and she got some—thanks to donated boots from Janet Baca, Christina Landavazo & some we found on sale! Thanks for blessing us so that we can bless others! 👢🥾🌈❤️

Look at all these shoes! To all who donated—Thank you!!❤️Gratitude to Ann & Krystal & Patrick J. Baca Library Staff for making us a part of the library’s 10th birthday celebration! City Councilman Ken Sanchez’ dream come true for the westside! There were Arts n Crafts activities in Lawrence Charles’ Activity Room, refreshments, music & birthday cake for all! The Shoe Drive was a success! We also presented Kim Kerschen, Locker #505 with a gift certificate promising 100+ pairs of shoes to be distributed to children our community! Our son & brother’s legacy of ‘giving back’, the power of acts of kindness & the importance of literacy in the process lives on! 🌈❤️
