🇺🇸🚒 Happy Labor Day from IAFF Local 244!

Today, we honor the working men and women whose dedication, sacrifice, and solidarity built our communities and continue to move them forward.

For our firefighters and first responders, Labor Day is often just another day answering the call. To every brother and sister on shift today—and to working families everywhere—we thank you for the work you do.

Strong work. Strong unions. Strong communities.

Please join us in congratulating our brother, Captain Greg Montoya, as he completes his final shift with Albuquerque Fire Rescue after 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Albuquerque.

A U.S. Veteran, career firefighter, and union leader, Greg has dedicated much of his life to serving his country, his community, and his fellow firefighters. His commitment extended well beyond the firehouse, serving the membership of IAFF Local 244’s Executive Board in multiple roles, most recently as Vice President.

Through years of representation, advocacy, and contract negotiations, Captain Montoya helped secure improvements that will benefit generations of firefighters who follow him. His leadership, friendship, and one-of-a-kind presence will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters.

Today, Greg has earned his retirement axe—a symbol of a career served with honor and a retirement truly earned. 🪓🚒

We thank Greg and the entire Montoya family for their years of service and sacrifice. May this next chapter bring health, happiness, prosperity, and plenty of well-deserved time together.

Godspeed, brother Montoya.

🚒 After 21 years of answering the call for others, it’s our turn to answer the call for Kory.

For more than two decades, Kory Russell has proudly served Rio Rancho Fire Rescue as a firefighter and medic, providing compassion, care, and dedicated service to his community.

For the past four years, Kory has been battling colon cancer following years of occupational exposure to carcinogens. As he continues treatment, he and his family are now facing the difficult reality that he will not be able to return to the career he loves.

Kory has spent his career being there for others. Now, our fire family has an opportunity to be there for him.

A fundraiser is being held to help ease the financial burden on Kory and his family so they can focus on what matters most—his health, his treatment, and their time together.

Please consider donating, sharing, and standing alongside our brother and his family during this incredibly difficult fight. Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference.

21 years of answering the call. Now we answer for Kory. ❤️

🚒❤️ Once a firefighter, always family.

Another great IAFF Local 244 Retiree Picnic is in the books! It was an incredible day spent catching up with old friends, sharing stories, enjoying some good food, and celebrating the brothers and sisters who helped build the union and fire service we have today.

Our retirees carry decades of experience, sacrifice, tradition, and union pride with them, and we're grateful for every opportunity to bring generations of our fire family back together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and everyone who helped make the day possible. Here's to the memories already made—and plenty more still to come!

Retired from the job, never from the family. 🚒

🥾🚒 Albuquerque, help us fill the boot!

IAFF Local 244 firefighters are out in the community raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through our annual Fill the Boot campaign!

Through August 28, keep an eye out for our firefighters at participating grocery stores. When you see the boots, stop by and help us fill them! Every donation adds up and helps MDA continue supporting individuals and families affected by neuromuscular diseases.

We're always proud to see our firefighters and our community come together for a great cause. ❤️

See a boot. Make a difference.
