This is Peg. She was the Friends of Lucky Paws/Save Lucky Paws mascot. She's the tuxedo cat on our logo. She was the runt of the litter that I posted about earlier, the incentive to save lucky paws, cause that's where so many foster kittens went to find their homes. We lost her to cancer last spring.

Last but NOT least, some of the 3,065 pets adopted from Lucky Paws in 2012.

2012--busy, busy: besides the remodel, three fundraisers -- we needed the $$ to pay for the remodel and help with rent. Play for the Paws, a golf tournament at Sandia Casino Golf Resort (beautiful) so many volunteers made this happen!!! and tabling at Furry Friends Fiesta during Balloon Fiesta on the grounds of the Balloon Museum thanks to Jill Lane and her pal, Travelin' Jack -- the last pic.

2012 was a very busy year for Friends of Lucky Paws and Lucky Paws. That year FLP paid for major remodeling of the kennel rooms and the public area. It couldn't have been done without the hard work of all the staff, even some staff spouses. Here are a few pics from that time. First came the volunteers (more than shown) to take pets home while the work was done. Then construction.... finallyl a pose of most of the staff, including Michelle, grey hat, the LP Manager grinning in delight.

Here's a tour from 2011: counselor Kelli (what a smile, she's now home with two darling children) holding bunny, a new adopter who told me she was glad to have her picture with the new family member, small dogs often shared a room when counselors found they got along, this kitty was an acrobat--also a star, an educational event with the House Rabbit Society of NM--another way of reaching out to the community, and the 1st of several fundraisers "Play for the Paws" where young and old came to perform live in the Mall, each performer gathering pledges for their performance. It became the biggest fundraiser for Friends of LP. Thank you, Karen Cunningham and all the music teachers who brought their students. You are stars!

Here is a selection from many photos taken in 2010, the first year Save Lucky Paws was working to.....save Lucky Paws. Including a pic of former counselor Donna (what a great counselor she was, now retired) talking with children in the cattery. Visitors were always welcome whatever their age. It was a place to educate as well as adopt.
Closing Saturday!!!! 🥲

Dear supporters and pals of Friends of Lucky Paws: You are the best! You've done so much through the years to help Albuquerque's pets find homes through Lucky Paws...around 30,000: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, birds, and rabbits--young and old, hale and halting.
So I'm sad to tell you that Lucky Paws at Coronado Center will be closing soon. The Animal Welfare Dept. plans to open another Lucky Paws, date not known, but a larger space for more pets. In the meantime, they will have a large adoption van touring the City to place precious pets.
As we say goodbye, I'll be posting photos from the years that Save Lucky Paws/Friends of Lucky Paws taken at LP. This photo is of the kitty family that I fostered May-August 2010, which led to the founding of Save Lucky Paws in August 2010.
