Fall may be around the corner but we're still basking in the summer sun of Greece!

1. Earlier this summer, our Artistic Director, , took a journey to partake in an inspiring artistic retreat with creatives from around the world with one of Keshet’s earliest era's of company dancers and long-time collaborator,
2.On the 9 hour ferry from Athens to to the magical island of Patmos
3. Ever wonder “who lives in these beautiful buildings on a Greek isle hill?" Top floor 3rd from the right is where Shira and Amy were living! 52 incredible artists from all around the world occupied the rest of the rooms - music poetry and art making everywhere at all times!
4. A view from the room with morning coffee
5. Leaving the room on the backside of our home was the hillside with the cutest musical goats you’ve ever met and a goat herder we never met but often heard signing to his goats
6-9. Beautifully, no phones or recording devices were allowed during the 10 days of artistic explorations. But after hours meaningful connections were captured with the inspiring artists and visionary creators - thank you Ani DiFranco, Neko Case, , and for the gifts of vulnerability, laughter, authenticity, and challenging questions!
10. On the way out of town, the theater of Dionysus and a lucky happenstance to catch even more artistry with the Estonian Chamber Orchestra...whaaat??
11. Artistic inspiration and community connection was felt globally and brought back locally. Can’t wait to see what new creations and collaborations are born from this journey. Thank you for providing this artistic opportunity for our Founder and Artistic Director, Shira Greenberg!

Don't forget! Keshet is holding open auditions for our next Company and community show "MONARCH" August 8, 2026!

August 8 | Ages 10-16 | 10:00-11:15am
August 8 | Ages 17+ | 12:00-1:15pm

"MONARCH" uses the life cycle of a monarch butterfly to explore themes of immigration, loss, transformation, longing, the beauty of life, separation, and ultimately hope. "MONARCH" asks us to reflect on the balance of the natural world and the anxiety and fear in today’s political climate. Where is the hope? Who do we turn to? How do we protect the most vulnerable in our community?

It is with deep love, great sadness, and joy-filled memories that we share the news of the passing of Randy Cooper. As one of Keshet's earliest champions, Randy and his family expanded our sense of home for the Keshet community figuratively and literally, welcoming all of the artists of the early years of Keshet into the Cooper household as honorary extended family members, sharing laughter, love, thanksgiving dinners, and so much more. His yellow-ruler suspenders could be seen from afar, and you knew that kindness was near. His unique and world-renowned shadow sculptures were generously created and gifted to so many dancers who graced the Keshet stages. As Keshet was just being created and the vision being shared in the early years, many thought the dream was too big, scoffing at the grand ideas and giving condensing "advice" to our founder and artistic director. But not Randy, he fully believed in artists as changemakers, and said to the 22-year Shira who was explaining the vision of Keshet Dance Company and Keshet Center for the Arts that he would help in any way he could and he offered at that time to donate a welcome sculpture for the entry of the Center for the Arts as soon as we were able to make the dream come true (as he fully believed it would). Thus began his role as a volunteer, eventual board member, board president, and indeed the creator of the entry sculpture at the Keshet Center for the Arts, which opened 17 years after those initial conversations. Randy Cooper and his wonderfully talented and kind daughter Carol designed and created the "Keshet" shadow sculpture and the "Garden of Possibilities" which together grace the entry lobby of the Keshet Center for the Arts.

The Keshet community has been honored to call Randy and the entire Cooper family part of our family for these past 30 years. His memory is a blessing to all of us. We wrap his incredible wife Susan and his beautiful children and grandchildren in love and light during this time of mourning.

Please feel free to share any memories of Randy with us here and we will make sure to pass any messages along to the beloved Cooper family.
