About Friends of Fresco
The Friends of Fresco has partnered with renowned artist Frederico Vigil to carry on the legacy of fresco through apprenticeships. In 2017, Frederico began a 4-year fresco project with the City of Albuquerque Public Art Program. The fresco is over 2,500 square feet will be permanently showcased in the Albuquerque Convention Center. It tells the history of wine making and agriculture in New Mexico. The location and magnitude of the project creates the perfect opportunity to share the legacy of fresco with developing artists. The apprenticeship program has already caught the attention of emerging artists all over the country. These apprentices are eager to learn the process from a master of Buon Fresco. This opportunity is unique due to the rarity of fresco artists and murals throughout the United States. It is also unique because Frederico teaches the traditional process of fresco; the way it has been done for thousands of years. The program generally has 3-4 apprentices at a time who learn the process required to prepare for and create finished frescos.
The Friends of Fresco Apprenticeship Program is a fiscally sponsored project of the New Mexico Community Foundation.
