Paws and Stripes Veterans Resource Fair

Veterans and their families are invited to attend the Veterans Resource Fair hosted by Paws and Stripes on Tuesday, February 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 617 Truman St. NE in Albuquerque.

This event brings together organizations serving veterans with information, support, and resources all in one place. The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services (NMDVS) will be on site to answer questions about programs available to veterans and their families.

If you or someone you know could benefit from connecting with local veteran support organizations, this is a great opportunity to stop by, ask questions, and learn more about the services available in our community.

To find an NMDVS office near you, call NMDVS at 1-866-433-8387 or visit https://www.nmdvs.org

We have been requested to show our support for approximately 70 veterans and their families on the occasion of the engraving of their names onto the Moriarty Veterans Memorial Wall.

This event has been years in the making, and is the result of tireless fund raising efforts throughout the area. We will be es**rting the engravers (Worthen Memorials) and their equipment from Albuquerque to the Monument Wall site. Led by the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR), participants willinclude members of local law enforcement, fire department, the American Legion Riders, the Combat Veterans Association, the Blue Star Mothers, and more.

It will be our honor to show our respect and gratitude to these veterans for the sacrifices that they have made for this great nation.

in 1919, the Harlem Hellfighters returned home. The 369th Infantry Regiment was a legendary U.S. Army unit in World War I, spending 191 days in combat, longer than any other American unit, without losing ground or having a Soldier captured.

Originally the 15th New York National Guard, they served under French command, earned 171 Croix de Guerre medals, and became the first Allied unit to reach the Rhine.

Nine Soldiers are shown in this photograph. Two of them, Leon Fraiter and Herbert Taylor, are buried at Long Island National Cemetery and Calverton National Cemetery.
