Thank you, Ryan, for using your voice to advocate for compassionate, community driven solutions to homelessness in Albuquerque. As a student, you recognized that lasting change comes from investing in people, housing, and opportunity, but not punishment.
We're honored that your visit to StreetVision inspired you to speak up for affordable housing and the thoughtful use of public resources. Your letter is a reminder that the next generation is paying attention and advocating for a city where everyone has a place to call home.

A letter to Mayor Keller from a student:
I am a Junior in Highschool and I've grown up in Albuquerque my whole life. I've seen the homelessness crisis in our city worsen severely over the past 8 years. It seems to me there is a severe lack of action from the city to help the people in our city who have nowhere to go.
I'm writing to you concerning "The Enhanced Service and Safety Zone Ordinance" that was recently passed that outlaws sitting/sleeping on public sidewalks. This law is clearly predatory and made to punish homeless people for existing instead of offering any help.
I think the money that will be spent enforcing this law could be far better spent going into affordable housing projects/programs, like StreetVision, which I recently went on a field trip to in one of my classes. On this field trip, the founder of StreetVision, John Bulten, showed my class all of the empty/vacant properties in Albuquerque that are owned by the city. I strongly urge you to heavily consider putting the money and time of our city into something that could help the unhoused population of our city instead of punishing them for existing.
