This April, the American Psychiatric Association (APA), in partnership with the National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA), will host the APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Youth Summit and Community Mental Health Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Championed by APA President Dr. Theresa Miskimen Rivera, this free, one-day event will bring together youth, families, providers, and community leaders for a day of connection, learning, and support that reflects the rich diversity of New Mexicoโs Latino, Indigenous, immigrant, and rural communities. Held in the morning, the Youth Summit will provide a safe and welcoming space for young people to engage in honest conversations about mental health and well-being. Through interactive discussions, youth will explore topics such as stress, anxiety, depression, and culturally grounded approaches to healing, resilience, and wellness. In the afternoon, the Community Mental Health Fair will bring together local organizations, mental health providers, advocates, and community members to share information about available mental health and substance use resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect directly with services, learn more about supports in their community, and access timely, culturally responsive information.
Hosted annually in honor of Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, the APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Initiative highlights community-driven efforts to advance more equitable mental health care. Through this event, APA and NLBHA hope to build on the strengths of the Albuquerque community by supporting youth mental health, increasing awareness of local resources, and helping strengthen pathways to care for the future.
