In January 2023 the Public Health Order is expected to expire. When this happens, SNAP benefits will decrease to pre-covid amounts. Please remember that the ECHO ABQ Free Food for Seniors program offers a commodity food program for seniors to supplement your SNAP benefits. Eligibility requirements do apply, but if you qualify for SNAP, you automatically qualify for our commodity program. Please don't wait until January, come see us now at 300 Menaul Northwest in Albuquerque.
Expanded child tax credit payments helped lift millions of children out of poverty, but payments ended in 2021. SNAP provides essential resources to families, elevating dignity & respect, client choice, and access to culturally preferred nutritious food.
Feeding America expects that demand for food assistance will remain high and may increase as expanded assistance ends.
On average, when the Public Health Emergency declaration ends in January, SNAP recipients in emergency allotment states will lose $82 a month benefits. For those who qualify for the minimum SNAP benefits, their monthly benefit will plunge from $250 to a mere $20.
To address this crisis, we're calling on you to join the movement to end hunger in America.
🔶 Tell Congress to ensure that food banks have the critical food resources and program flexibilities necessary to address the need for food assistance by providing $900 million for TEFAP in spending legislation and extending child nutrition waivers.
🔶 The USDA should take any and all actions at their disposal to increase the availability of commodity foods
🔶 Food industry partners should reach out to Feeding America or local food banks to explore avenues for donation and food rescue.
🔶 For individuals, donors and advocates, please continue to support Feeding America and local hunger-relief organizations, either by volunteering, donating, and calling on elected officials to support strong nutrition program legislation.
