June 19, 1865, was the day when Union troops arrived in Texas, and enslaved Black people finally learned they were free, more than two months after the Civil War had ended. It’s a day of remembrance and celebration, and also a reminder that freedom has always been contested and delayed.

We remember Juneteenth because housing has always been tied to freedom: the ability to live safely, build stability, and pass something on. We're here, working to change policies and practices that continue to deny Black families the full promise of liberty. Read more at https://pulse.ly/u2hbd6mcqf

When you go into foreclosure, you're bombarded with letters, deadlines, and pressure that make it hard to think straight. One of the most common things we hear is, “I thought I had more time.”

The truth is: time is one of your biggest tools, and reaching out early helps protect it.

USBC provides free housing counseling for New Mexico homeowners statewide (and free legal help for those who qualify). We can help you understand what the notices mean, what time you have available, your options, and how to stay organized so your request doesn’t get lost or delayed. If you’re behind or already in the court process, call (505) 764-8867. You deserve clear information before you make a life-changing decision. Learn more at https://pulse.ly/cz8jrehkjs

On June 10, 1954, governors and representatives from 12 Southern states met in Richmond and openly pledged to resist Brown v. Board of Education -the U.S. Supreme Court declaration that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal". That ignorant hate fueled decades of intimidation and delay that kept Black children locked out of equal education, even after the law changed.

Housing, education, and opportunity are inseparable. When leaders treat equity as optional, the harm doesn’t stop at schools; it shapes neighborhoods, lending, where families can safely live, and which communities get investment. Understanding “massive resistance” helps explain why progress has always required not just laws, but enforcement and community power. Read more at https://pulse.ly/5fu7plkd6a

Summer can be the hardest season for grocery budgets, especially when school meals pause. SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) is a federal summer grocery benefit that provides $120 per eligible child to help families buy food while school is out. In New Mexico, state agencies have information pages and FAQs to help families check eligibility and determine next steps.
