I lost my job today for standing up for what I believe in by openly disagreeing with a tyrant of a general manager whose authority dare be tested by anybody beneath her.
There's a man who stands outside the store requesting people for money to pay his room so that his family has a roof over their heads. He's a gentleman, he's clean, very respectful and has had my back more than the "security" they hired ever has. This all started because she accused him of stealing and I disputed it. Little did she know that one of my coworkers pulled up the camera footage from our computer in the office and showed it to me. He was clearly not stealing. This is how that all turned out.
I could've kept my mouth shut like a would-be good employee but that's just not who I am. Silence is complicity and I refuse to stay quiet.
I recently became homeless. I'm camped out in the West Mesa neighborhood like I've been living in for 3 years. Life is about to get a lot harder than it had been already. But I'll make it. I don't have a choice, I have to.
Remember to always stand up for your beliefs in the face of authority and injustice. Protect and defend those you love and those who cannot defend themselves.
We protect us.
