Verse of the Day…
This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
—Psalm 34:6

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
So few hear the cry of the poor or respond to the plight of the disadvantaged. If we are going to be true children of our Father, his values must become our own, his lost sheep must become our quest. Let's help others around us who are in need find that when they call to God, they are not forgotten. Let's be his delivery system of grace.

My Prayer...
Gracious and Holy Father, please use me to be a delivery system for your grace. In the name of Jesus, your greatest gift of grace. Amen.

Welcome to Cheryl's Scripture Corner....
Culture part 5
Matthew 4:19 New Living Translation
Jesus called out to them, “ Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”
Amplified
And He said to them, “Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 16:24 NLT
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.
Amplified
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me].
Luke 14:27 NLT
And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
Shalom dear brothers & sisters, we've come to the finale on culture. I truly believe the Lord wants us to take a look at the previous four parts as our closing devotion to remind us of His culture. In part one, we learned: we are ALL one IN Christ Jesus, we are to apply the Living Word to our daily life if we're serious about living in Christ’s culture. Then in part two we talked about seeking God, His Kingdom & His righteousness. Believers swim against the world’s current & culture. Hardened hearts deny spiritual perception & revelation. Fear creates flawed reasoning. Wrong reasoning can cause doubt, weak faith or no faith at all. Motives of the heart were next in part three & the seven detestable things God hates. We also know we reap in the future the words we speak today! John 1:1 AMP: IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. Last week we discussed that prayer is actually communicating with God & it is detrimental to our well being to starve our spirit. We are in right standing with God in & through our beloved Yeshua (Hebrew for Savior), Jesus, the Name Above All Names!
Overwhelming love, joy & peace will come as we journey with Jesus, learning His culture, applying His culture & loving His culture! No matter what & I can't stress that point enough, no matter what we go through He is our friend that is always with us (Prov 18:24). Please join in agreement with me in praying that Christ’s culture be absorbed into our soul, body & spirit. Let’s let our absorption of God’s love & all He wants to give us be our daily goal so we can give Him to others. While walking in the world, Lord, please don't let us revel in the absurd. Help us to apply Kingdom culture in every area of life. God we ask for strength to continue walking in faith, not fear! We will praise Your majestic name forevermore! Thank you Father, thank you Jesus & thank you Holy Spirit. Amen Sincerely, Cheryl

Verse of the Day…
Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
—Psalm 34:5

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
We are like the moon; the glory we show is the reflection of the greater life in our lives that does not originate in us but is a blessing to others through us. Look to God for your hope, your strength, your values, your foundation, your security, and your light.

My Prayer...
Father, I look for you and to you. Be near me as I face challenges and temptations. Don't let the evil one bring me shame because of my sin and weakness. Triumph over evil in my life for your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Verse of the Day…
Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.
—Psalm 119:133

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
God's word is a light to our dark path in a morally uncertain world. It must be our standard for right and wrong, righteousness and evil. As God's will and Word have sway in our life, we are delivered from all sorts of destructive practices that can ruin our lives.

My Prayer...
Great and Almighty God, who raises the dead and restores the fallen, make my heart delight in your truth and my life more perfectly conformed to your will. Lead me in your way and guide my footsteps in righteousness. Empower me to freedom from any form of bo***ge that Satan might use to control me and ruin my godly influence. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Welcome to Cheryl's Scripture Corner...
Culture part 4
Romans 8:10,11 Amplified
If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides]. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.
Many believe we're just natural human bodies, flesh, bone and blood, and once this body dies life is over and that's it, that's the end. Most people think we are a body that has a spirit, when in actuality we are a spirit that has a body. Having a spirit and afterlife is questionable. But, I truly believe we are spirit in a temporary body/home. Living beyond this physical body’s death is not optional. What is optional, is where we spend eternity. I'm not gonna pretend I understand all the heavenly realms, Heaven & Hell, etc. and how it all works, no matter how much research is done, however, I do know one thing for sure, we are spirit & live on past the death of our body! Understanding that is imperative to living in a “prayer culture.” In my Life Application Study Bible NIV they define spirits. Spirit(s) invisible, non-material part of humans; supernatural being (third person of Trinity); other lesser supernatural beings; see spiritual. Then to pray is defined as to communicate with God. There's approximately 60 spirit scriptures referenced in that Study Bible so, I’ll let ya have a hayday studying that one out.
When we hear our tummy grumble, it's a reminder to feed our body to fuel us up, right? Many organizations rise up to feed the hungry, which is definitely commendable. If you're thinkin’, “What in the world is this woman talking about?” Just please bear with me. Slow spiritual su***de is not the way to go. Let’s look at this from a spiritual/supernatural perspective. Just as our body needs food, so does our spirit. We can actually starve the spirit within us by avoiding relationship with our Creator. If we deny ourselves, purposefully or not, the Living Word of God & practicing His presence throughout the day, then our spirit becomes hungry & vulnerable. Vulnerable, unfortunately, to the devil & his demonic spirits. The more we feed our spirit with The Kingdom’s culture, the stronger our spirit becomes & the easier it is for the Holy Spirit living within us to direct & guide us. Know that when you pray, He is working & thank Him for taking care of it for you. Please join me in praying for a deep desire to want to communicate with our Creator, Father God & allow our own spirit to meld with His. May God bless you & yours as you practice His presence.
Sincerely,
Cheryl

Verse of the Day…
The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
—Proverbs 10:32

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
How many times have you said just the "wrong" thing? For me, it is more often than I would like to recall. Jesus words on this topic are indeed convicting to me: "Out of the abundance of the heart does the mouth speak." In other words, poor words and bad timing in our speech are more issues of our heart than issues of social skills and decorum. Let's ask God to purify, mend, and re-focus our heart on his will and passions.

My Prayer...
Almighty God, loving and merciful Father, please purify my heart of all evil, hate, duplicity, prejudice, malice, lust and greed. By the powerful name of Jesus, please drive away any evil power or enticing tempation that would corrupt my heart and wound my soul. Fill my heart with love, grace, righteousness, holy passion, gentleness, forebearance, sensitivity, courage, conviction, and forgiveness. Give me discernment to know which of these qualities are needed at any given moment. Sanctify me, body, soul, and spirit with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Verse of the Day…
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
—Romans 6:14

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
As we called on Jesus name in baptism and trusted him to be our Savior, we died to sin. In this death, we die to dying and pass from death to life because of our faith in Jesus and in God's power (John 5:24; Col. 2:12). Our life is joined to Jesus, and his glorious future becomes our own (Col. 3:1-4). We are not under law, but grace. Let's respond to the gift of grace with passion and with zeal to be holy. Let's open ourselves to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, who changes us to be like Jesus (2 Cor. 3:18). We are grace-children. We are not in bo***ge to sin, but liberated by grace to be all that God has made us to be — his craftmanship (Eph. 2:1-10). Sin will not be our master!

My Prayer...
Purify my heart, dear LORD and Father, and make it new and alive to your grace and dead to the sin that once entangled me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Verse of the Day…

We wait for the blessed hope — the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
—Titus 2:13-14

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
We haven't arrived at our destination (cf. Philipppians 3). We are in waiting! Jesus, who offered his own life for our redemption, will gloriously return to take us home. During our time of waiting, let's be eager to do what is right, good, and holy.

My Prayer...
Father, make me holy. Holy Spirit, make me eager. Jesus, make me glorious. Do these things for your praise and for the blessing of those who need to know you better. Please forgive me for the times I have settled for mediocrity and stir me to a holy passion to belong to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Verse of the Day…
For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
—Psalm 107:9

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
The Bible cries out with one recurring truth: God quenches the thirst and satisfies the hunger of those who seek him. So often we try to soothe the ache in our soul and fill the emptiness in our heart with what is only a temporary satisfaction that only God's presence can fill. Let's refuse every false satisfaction and seek the LORD!

My Prayer...
Forgive me, dear Father, for trying to find the satisfaction for my soul's hunger in what is not truly sustaining. (Confess the area of temptation that most often causes you to stumble in this area — s*x, status, possessions, economic security, chemical dependency, abusing food, body identity, etc.) As I seek you, dear LORD, please make your presence known as you satisfy my spiritual thirst and satiate my soul's hunger. In the name of Jesus, my Lord. Amen.

Welcome to Cheryl's Scripture Corner

Culture part 1
Galatians 3:28 New Living Translation
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female.
for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Culture is defined in Webster’s 1828 dictionary, & two of those definitions are definitely applicable to this teaching. One of them is: The application of labor or other means to improve good qualities in, or growth; as the culture of the mind; the culture of virtue. Next we have: Any labor or means employed for improvement, correction or growth. Culture is to cultivate & educate. How we live, how we think & how we do things is all based on the culture we grew up in. Right here-right now, I truly believe God is trying to wake up His body of believers all over this world. Why? He wants us united in Christ’s Culture, not the World’s! We truly are one in Christ. We need to step back, deeply analyze & comprehend we live in the World, however, as Jesus’ redeemed body, we are not of the World (John 17:14) According to the NIV of Galatians 3:29: if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Nourishing ourselves like a seed in the ground with the water of the Word (Eph 5:26, John 3:5) is imperative to unity & growth. We know if farmers do not cultivate properly, crops won’t grow. Well my dear friends, it is the same with us in the spiritual realm.
Families, companies, sports, churches, TV & movies have their own culture, just to name a few. One aspect of TV & Movies I have definitely noticed through the years is the supernatural being presented, but not the supernatural power of God by the Holy Spirit. Scripture has been replaced with spells & cursings. Respect & humility has been substituted with hate, revenge & vanity. Sure, there are still good movies & shows to watch but they’re a bit harder to find. As born again believers, (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:3) I have to ask, are we willing to adapt to Christ’s Culture? This week I’ll leave you to ponder that question & God’s Word. We’ll be continuing this topic next week, as well. I pray for all to have intense revelation (revelation is the unveiling of Truth through divine intervention) on the culture of Christ as you proceed through daily life. May God bless you & yours on your journey with the Trinity to establish & maintain Christ’s culture.
Sincerely,
Cheryl

Verse of the Day…
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
—Psalm 23:2-3

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Some of us won't slow down for anything! Well, almost anything. When we get "too full of ourselves" and too caught up in our own plans, the LORD, our Shepherd, slows us down and makes us lie down. Our Shepherd knows we need rest, nourishment, and refreshment and helps us, yes and even sometimes makes us, find "green pastures" and "still waters." He then leads us in the direction of his righteousness and holiness once we are rested and refreshed. Isn't it interesting that God's order for our life is always grace and then glory.

My Prayer...
Thank you, dear Father, for slowing down my frantic life and leading me to times of refreshment, rest, and nourishment. I trust that you will lead me to what I need as you mature me to have more and more of your righteous character. Please forgive me for getting too busy to hear your voice and to respond to your grace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Verse of the Day…
For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands.
—Psalm 92:4

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Gaze into the heavens on a dark night and see the wonders of the starry hosts. Think of the incredible diversity of earth's wonders. Look at your own life and see the fingerprints of God's work in your own experience (Rom. 8:28). As Jesus said, our Father is working still (John 5:17). Yes, it does make us glad to know that we are not alone in working our own life (Psalm 139; Phil. 2:13). There is a deep-seated joy at knowing that the LORD, Creator of the universe is at work in us and for us. No wonder singing praise is such a natural response for us!

My Prayer...
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for power and glory revealed in the majesty of your creation. I thank you for your work in transforming and recreating me, as well. Please continue your transforming work in me. Make me what you want me to be. In Jesus' name. Amen.
