🐈‍⬛Meow of the Month🐈‍⬛
Alistair is Street Cat HUB’s Meow of the Month for May. He came to us from a rural New Mexico situation where he had been living with close to 100 cats and three dogs. Found hiding inside the walls, Alistair was suffering from a severe skin condition that caused intense scratching and fur loss.

Today, Alistair is healing under medical care, his black long fur is growing back, and Nine Lives Rescue NM is helping him find a medical foster or experienced adopter. Big thanks to for providing his initial care as well! His story shows why TNR work matters, and why rescue and veterinary partnerships give vulnerable cats the second chance they deserve.

🔆Volunteer Spotlight🔆

At Street Cat HUB, there are people who quietly make the day better simply by being there. Marjory “Molly” French is one of those people. As Street Cat HUB Volunteer Coordinator and Recovery Room Lead, Molly helps community cats wake safely after surgery and helps volunteers find a place where their time and kindness can do some good.

‍ ‍She is the kind of person you want in a recovery room. She pays attention. She stays calm. She understands that a cat waking from anesthesia may be scared, uncomfortable, or simply unsure of what has happened. She also understands that a new volunteer may feel a little unsure on that first day. Molly makes room for each of them, the cats and the people, with patience and care.

Read more about Molly at the link below and email [email protected] if you’re interested in volunteering!

**FIV is NOT a death sentence. ❤️🐾**

The reality is that our understanding of FIV has changed dramatically over the years.

Cats with FIV can and often do live long, happy, healthy lives. Many never develop serious symptoms and make wonderful companions.

FIV is primarily spread through **deep bite wounds**, not through sharing food bowls, grooming, sleeping together, or simply living in the same colony. That's why intact male cats—who are more likely to fight over territory and mates—are at the highest risk.

The solution isn't euthanasia. The solution is **prevention.**

When we trap, neuter, and return (TNR) community cats, we dramatically reduce the behaviors that lead to fighting and the spread of FIV. Fewer fights mean fewer bite wounds. Fewer bite wounds mean fewer opportunities for transmission.

Every time a colony is fully sterilized, we're not just preventing kittens from being born—we're also helping create a healthier, more stable community of cats.

**Want to help? Support TNR efforts in your community, get free-roaming cats fixed, and help us continue providing resources for community cats who need it most.** 🐱❤️

Pete was one of the “invisible” cats.
A free roaming tomcat, covered in scars, painfully sick, and barely hanging on. By the time he made it to Street Cat Hub, he was suffering from severe illness and tested positive for both FeLV (feline leukemia) and FIV. His little body had clearly spent years fighting to survive outside.

But look at him now. ❤️
Safe. Warm. Eating well. Finally comfortable. Finally loved. Pete has a new lease on life because people cared enough to step in for him when no one else would.

His story is heartbreaking, but it’s also an important reminder: this is why neutering free roaming cats matters so much. When cat populations are allowed to grow unchecked, fighting, mating, injuries, and disease transmission become incredibly common. Cats like Pete suffer the consequences.

TNR and population control are not just about preventing kittens — they are about preventing suffering. Fewer intact cats means fewer fights, fewer injuries, fewer disease outbreaks, and healthier community cats overall.

Street Cat Hub works every day to help cats like Pete get the medical care they deserve, but we can’t do it without support from the community. If Pete’s story touched your heart, please consider donating to help us continue treating, and fixing vulnerable street cats before they end up critically ill. Every dollar truly makes a difference. 🐾 streetcathub.org/donate

This injured boy was brought in to us for treatment and neutering this week, and we’re so glad he made it to us! He’ll be ok, but this boy is a stark reminder that TNR isn’t just about preventing kittens. It’s also about preventing suffering.

Unneutered male cats live incredibly hard lives. They roam for miles searching for females in heat, cross busy roads, fight constantly with other males, and often end up with devastating injuries like abscesses, torn ears, infected bite wounds, and damaged eyes. Many never make it home at all.

By fixing the tom cats in a colony, we’re not only stopping future litters — we’re giving these boys a safer, healthier, less painful life.

75% of kittens born outside won’t survive their first year. They face disease, predators, weather, starvation, and injury before they ever get the chance to grow up.
Rescues and shelters are overflowing, but you can make a difference. You don’t need a big house or years of experience — sometimes all it takes is a spare bathroom, a crate, and a few weeks of fostering to help kittens stay safe until they’re old enough to be fixed and adopted.

And the most important step? TNR the entire colony. Spay and neuter stops the cycle so fewer kittens are born outside to suffer. Compassion saves lives — and prevention saves even more. 🐾
