“Man up.” “Tough it out.” “Shake it off.” These statements are often heard by boys to suppress their emotions. According to the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention, men are almost four times more likely to die by su***de than women. This month let’s learn how to help turn this around.

Many of us want to help others when we notice something is wrong, but we hesitate to help because we don’t want to say the wrong thing—but sometimes just listening nonjudgmentally can be the most important step. Taking time to listen to the concerns of a young person in your life can help them feel safe sharing what they’re experiencing.
