The Atrisco Heritage Foundation was created and is operated exclusively for the purposes of promoting and preserving the ancestral and cultural heritage of the general community of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the history of the Atrisco Land Grant. As a community partner we seek out opportunities to provide support to community members that serve to enhance their lives. We recognize that improving

Last weekend’s Burning of the Kookoee was a powerful celebration of renewal, tradition, and community spirit. The Atrisco Heritage Foundation was proud to be one of the event sponsors, supporting this dynamic cultural experience that brings people together year after year.

After the event, students in the Rio Grande Educational Collaborative (RGEC) afterschool program at Mission Elementary channeled their creativity by drawing their own Kookoee figures — capturing the spirit and imagination of the evening!

We’re so grateful to Access and all the partners who made this event possible. Together, we keep our culture alive and thriving for the next generation. ❤️

El Kookooee Se Quema returns this Sunday! 🔥

We’re proud to support ACCESS in continuing this beloved South Valley tradition that blends education, creativity, and cultural heritage. Each year, local students bring the legend of El Kookooee to life through art and writing, with the winning design built into a 30-foot effigy!

Join us as our community gathers to symbolically burn away fears and welcome renewal together.
