Catholic Scouting is an official program of the Catholic Church in the United States, with religious programming approved by the Church.

Catholic Scouting Is Faith, Family and Adventure

Catholic Scouting is a life-changing activity that offers the adventure, character building, and values-based lessons of Scouting—all grounded in the Catholic faith. Catholic Scouting is a partner with the Boy Scouts of America, so boys and girls in Catholic Scouting have access to all the great activities, quality programs and time-tested resources that have helped millions of American Scouts grow up to be responsible adults. Parents and guardians are invited to learn more about Catholic Scouting, including information about active units in their area—or to consider starting a Scouting unit at their parish. Young people are invited to check out all the cool things to do in Catholic Scouting, including camping trips, adventurous activities like rock climbing and white water rafting, service projects to help your community—and more! Catholic pastors, youth ministers and other parish and Catholic school leaders are invited to find out how Catholic Scouting complements your existing youth ministry programs—and how Catholic Scouting can take youth engagement in your faith formation activities to a new level.

Celebrate 100 Years of Faith & Service with the Ad Altare Dei Emblem!

Did you know that 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the Ad Altare Dei religious emblem? First awarded in 1926—and later becoming the very first religious award recognized on the Scouting uniform—this historic program continues to inspire young Catholics today!

Designed for members of Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouts (ages 13–14+), Ad Altare Dei (To the Altar of God) guides youth in developing a fully Christian way of life rooted in their faith community and the Seven Sacraments.

Why encourage your Scout to earn it?
• Deepens Sacramental Faith: Helps Scouts grow closer to God by exploring the seven sacraments as primary sources of spiritual strength.
• Mentorship & Fellowship: Completed with an approved facilitator over 6 to 8 months, fostering meaningful group discussions, journal reflections, and parish engagement.
• A Century-Old Honor: Earns the emblem medal, the official Scouting America religious square knot, and helps fulfill eligibility for Catholic Scouting college scholarships!

Talk with your Scout, unit leader, or parish coordinator to find a trained facilitator and pick up the Ad Altare Dei Youth Manual through the Catholic Scouting America store or local Scout Shop. https://nccsshop.org/product/ad-altare-dei-youth-manual/

Help your Scout take this transformative step toward the altar of God!

Looking to help the youth in your troop or pack grow deeper in their faith journey? Your Scout unit needs a Religious Emblem Counselor!

Having a counselor in every unit ensures that Scouts have a direct mentor and clear pathway to earn their Catholic Religious Emblems—whether they are working on Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei, Light is Life, or Pope Pius XII.

Why Earning Religious Emblems Matters for Scouts:

Faith in Action: Helps Scouts connect the Scout Oath and Law to their everyday Catholic values and personal spiritual life.

Grounded Growth: Offers an age-appropriate structure for youth to learn more about the sacraments, Scripture, and Catholic traditions.

Recognition: Allows Scouts to proudly live their faith and wear the Scouting America Religious Knot on their uniform.

You don't need a degree in theology to serve—just a willing heart and a commitment to guiding young people.
